My name is Fernando Maria Goy Rodriguez and I'm from Madrid (Spain) . I'm the president of the certified spanish NON PROFIT organization Centro Social Tío Antonio Nicaragua . I founded it in 2008 to support the social and labour insertion projects carried out by Antonio Prieto ("Tio Antonio") in the city of Granada (Nicaragua).
Café de las Sonrisas opened in 2012 and was the first restaurant in the Americas managed by people with hearing disabilities. Due to the incidents in Nicaragua that began in april, our future is in danger.
6 years ago, as a result of the lack of job opportunities for people with disabilities, we decided to create our own jobs by launching a brave and innovative project: a restaurant where all of its workers were people with hearing disabilities. Our space was focused on tourism, the main source of income in Granada. The serious incidents that began last April and the unstable political situation that we are living, have caused the entire tourist season to fall apart. That means more than 1800 reservations for the high season (tour operators, college students...) have been cancelled .
As we are facing this situation, with a serious danger of bankruptcy, we want to reinvent ourselves while we wait for tourism to regain confidence in our country. We will focus on the local market offering daily menus and new bakery and ice cream products.
We need help to endure this situation while we form our workers and adapt our kitchen and premises to the new circumstances. All funds will go towards:
-Worker salaries: 1300 $ / month
-Rent, supplies (water, electricity, internet) and taxes: 700$ / month
-Refrigerator: 4000$
-Professional Ice Cream Maker and accesories: 1500 $
-Food supplies and various materials: 3500 $
Why am I leading the campaign on behalf of Antonio and our non profit?
GoFundMe is not supported in Nicaragua so we had to raise the funds in Spain. As GoFundMe only supports certified US and UK charities, our spanish non profit cannot lead the campaign.
All funds raised will be withdrawn to my personal account and will be transfered to Centro Social Tio Antonio spanish bak account. From there we'll send the funds to Antonio in Nicaragua. As we will be withdrawing money periodically, we'll be posting screen captures of the wires we send to Nicaragua.
The campaign will end on October 31.
