Small Steps Towards Positive Change

Poverty is something you hear and read about but you never really know what it's like until you're actually there. When you see it firsthand, it truly opens your eyes to something you've never experienced before and now it can never be unseen. Our purpose for traveling around the world is to not only create lifelong memories but to also impact those around us. In the midst of our "vacation" to Cambodia, we felt it was necsssary to spend some time connecting with the Khmer culture.  We wanted to see something different, experience something real, and spread the love and light we carry with us. So we hopped in a tuk tuk and drove to the country side of Siem Reap. Our driver, Adam, walked us through one of the poorest villages in the area. The moment we stepped foot on the dirt path that these people call home, our hearts shattered. On this street alone, there were at least 50, one room, shacks teetering over the river, consisting of at least 4 family members in each. We slowly walked; observing, listening, and often looked at each other in disbelief. We were instantly greeted with smiles, hugs, and high fives. The rest of our time spent in the village was filled with endless love and laughter. The second we left, we knew we had to do something. We talked with Adam to figure out the first steps towards providing help for these families. He told us that the majority of these families are not only jobless, but can hardly afford to eat. Rice is an easily accessible item for us here and a little bit can go a long way. So we've decided to deliver as much of it as we can to each family. 20 kg of rice can feed a family of 4-5 for about a week. We'd love to be able to support as many as  possible. At the market, a 50 kg bag of good quality rice costs about 50 US dollars. So in total, we'd like to deliver at least 20 kg of rice per house. Both Sarah and I have extended our stay in Cambodia to help make this happen but there's no way the two of us can single handedly support at least 200 people. Help us make a difference for the people that truly need it the most. We started this GoFundMe on extremely short notice but our hope to make a postive change is never ending. Help us be apart of something bigger.
