Simon Cooper is a BRAVE 9 yr old boy who lost his couragous fight with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia yesterday evening. (11/5/14)Simon was one of a kind, the sweetest little boy who lit up a room with just his presence. He was a son, a brother/twin, a nephew, a grandson and a dear friend to everyone at Winchell Elementary and all who knew him.
Simon was diagnosed in January 2014 and fought courageously until the very end. After receiving his first series of chemotherapy he went into remission. Then in July the leukemia returned. With the leukemia going into remission for only a few days in between treatments, Simon and his family met with University of Michigan cancer experts to review possible experimental treatments. He recently spent over a month at Mott's Childrens Hospital in Ann Arbor, returning to Bronson Methodist Hospital last week after learning treatments weren't working and there were no other options. He was in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family when he passed.
His loving mother Mrs. Cooper, never left her son's side putting her career as an educator on hold. With the medical and travel expenses incurred while Simon was receiving treatment at Mott's Childrens Hospital I can only imagine the financial hardship it's put on this family. Over the past several months Simon's school along with his classmates held a number of fundrasiers in efforts to help ease the financial burden on the Cooper family.
Let's continue to show our love and support to Simon and his family and collectively help them with this costly expense. I'd like to ask for support from my community, family and friends in helping the Cooper Family pay for Simon's memorial service and burial.
