Hi, my name is Nick Hoover -- I'm a firefighter/paramedic in San Luis Obispo, and I worked with Matt on several public safety service message campaigns. I'm representing all of the firefighters, police officers, EMS, and others that Matt sought to document.
Matt Frank (SLO Stringer) was killed in a tragic vehicle accident while responding to a second alarm structure fire as a breaking news photographer. He touched the lives of thousands as his breaking coverage was unbiased, informative, and anonymous. Matt never sought to receive fame for what he did, he simply sought to get it right and inform the public about what was going on in their community. His passing has been challenging for his family, friends, the public and the public safety family who he documented.
The proceeds from your donation will benefit the Matthew Frank memorial fund, his family will be developing a plan for the memorial fund after they've had time to grieve the loss of their son.
Matt's memorial service will be located at Mountainbrook Church at 11am on Wednesday, March 29th. It's open to the public, and a barbecue will follow shortly thereafter at the Madonna Inn Expo Center.

"The family of Matthew Frank thanks all of you who have so generously supported us in loving prayers and memorials to his memory. Our hearts are broken and nothing will ever replace our great loss. At the appropriate time we will announce a plan for the memorial funds given in his name and to honor him. Matthew's heart was with the firefighters to the very end. We are still securing a venue for his memorial service and will announce that information as soon as it's available. It has only been two days, but they have been the longest of our lives. We know that you all had a special love for Matthew and for that we will always have a special place for you in our hearts."

Thank you for continuing to support Matthew Frank's memorial fund. I wanted to make sure to include the original folks who donated earlier in the day: the GoFundMe originally started as a way to pay for funeral expenses under the guidance of Matt's friend Johnny, transitioned, once the local public safety group took the lead, into a scholarship fund -- and after taking some time to speak with Matt's grieving family, reached where it will remain: as a memorial fund that will honor Matt once his family has had time to grieve. It took a few guiding moments to get it right, which Matt would appreciate since that was always his focus.
Thank you to all of Matt's supporters, our community is awesome in a time of tragedy.
