Sidney Racing In Europe

Hello Friends and Family!

I've been selected by Cycling Canada to race with Team Canada in two big events in Europe, but I really need your help.

This trip is self funded and I'm hoping to raise $3200 to cover my hard expenses.

The trip will last 13 days, leaving Edmonton on March 30th, and returning April 11th. I'll be flying Edmonton to Zurich, then traveling with Team Canada to races in Switzerland, and Germany.

A Project Fee of $1400 is charged by Cycling Canada which includes coaching, lodging, ground transportation and other logistical support. As well, we are responsible for getting ourselves and bike to Zurich, Switzerland and back.

My Grandparents have already generously contributed $1000, which has covered almost 1/3 of my expenses. Thanks Grandma and Grandpa!

Summary of Expenses:

Flight: $1295.31 (Edmonton to Zurich return)
Bike + Baggage Fee: $157.50 (Departure)
Bike + Baggage Fee: $157.50 (Return)
New Tires: $196.86 (1 set - 2 tires)
Project Fee: $1400.00 (Cycling Canada)
------------------------------------------
Sub Total: $3207.17

Grandparents: -($1000)
------------------------------------------
Total: $2207.17

Minus the $1000 from my Grandparents, I've started this GoFundMe campaign to hopefully raise the remaining $2200.

Here are the locations of the two races:

1. Rivera, Switzerland on April 3rd [Google Maps]
2. Bad Säckingen, Germany on April 9th [Google Maps ]

This trip is an important stepping stone in preparation for the 2016 Mountain Bike World Championships in Nové Mesto, Czech Republic in early July. I haven't qualified for the 2016 Canadian World Cup team yet, although I'm working hard towards this goal and should know more in May.

I hope to learn a lot from this trip including gaining valuable experience traveling and racing overseas. The competition will be stiff and I've heard the euro girls are pretty aggressive off the start. I'll do my best.

The last few weeks have been intense with travel, training and racing in Victoria, BC.

On March 5th I raced in the first 2016 Canada Cup (national level race) at the Bear Mountain Resort in Victoria.

With girls coming from all across Canada to compete, this was an important race. After 1 hour 20 minutes of steep climbing, fast downhill sections, and muddy conditions, I placed second.

This was my first big race in a while, and wasn't sure where I stood nationally, so a strong 2nd place finish is positive and I'm really happy with my result. Still some work to do, but I'm making good progress.

I've also just returned from an eight day training camp in Victoria with the team that will be traveling to Europe. We had fun together, but it was a lot of hard work. My legs are so tired now, and I'd like to sleep for a week. Definitely was riding the pain train all last week.

Thank you all so much for the kind words of encouragement and support!

Any amount you can contribute to helping me race in Europe is greatly appreciated and will go a long way in funding this very important step in my mountain bike training.

A special thanks to Pedalhead for all the support and gear for this coming season!!

P.S. I've also recently launch my own website at sidneymcgill.com. I'll be posting photos and updates throughout the season, so be sure to check it out. I also post updates regularly on Instagram @sidneymcgill.

Oops, almost forgot another thing. Want to receive email updates about my biking adventures? There's a quick email newsletter signup form on my website. I'll be sending semi-regular updates to anyone who subscribes.
