Remembering Nadia Duvan

Donation protected
Grandmother Nadia Duvan, last shaman of the Ulchi people, needs your help as she begins a long journey through treatment for pancreatic cancer. Her remote village in Siberia does not have a hospital and we are working to raise funds to send her to a modern hospital for her recovery. These funds would go toward further testing, chemotherapy sessions, surgery, and potentially travel to medical facility abroad if private hospitals in the city of Khabarovsk are unavailable.

For more than twenty-one years, Ms. Duvan has been coming to the United States to teach and share the culture of her ancient peoples. She is a beloved friend and mentor to many people in the U.S., Japan, and other nations throughout the world. Nadia is featured in issue 53 of Shamans Drum magazine and is a contributing author to the book “First Fish, First People, Salmon Tales of the North Pacific Rim”, University of Washington Press.  Nadia currently lives in Bulava village, where she helps to support her husband, her daughter's family, and three young grandchildren.

Please keep Nadia in your thoughts, and consider donating to support her care at this critical time. She is the last shaman and wisdom keeper of the Ulchi peoples in the Russian Far East. We hope to help her to recover and continue her work teaching Ulchi culture, retelling the legends and stories, and keeping language alive for the younger generations of her tribe. Every contribution, large or small, is much appreciated.

Thank you!

And thank you for sharing this information.
