Ship Dan off to Africa!

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Dan Dúet with Two-Twelve Ministries in San Antonio. I’m asking you for your support in my journey to share the Gospel in Western Kenya this summer. As I say in the video clip, I’m asking you to ship me off to Africa! LOL.

[Scroll down to see important information regarding the Prayer Service that will be held on the evening of June 28 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in the town of Oyugis.]

Transcript of interview with Fr. Kennedy Nyumba:
In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, amen. Lord Jesus Christ, we want to ask you to send us Your Holy Spirit to inspire us so that especially in this Lent we come back to our loving Father with all our hearts. We ask this through Christ our Lord, amen.

So, I’m Fr. Kennedy Nyumba, I’m coming from the Diocese of Homa Bay in Kenya, and I’ve been here at Holy Name for the past three years. I’ve met wonderful families, a wonderful community and Fr. Martin, the pastor, is just so wonderful. They really welcomed me here though I work with the hospital ministry with the Archdiocese of San Antonio and I’m also grateful for Mary (?) who is also the Director for the hospital ministries. I’ve been having a chance working for hospitals… that is Baptist Downtown, NE Central Baptist Hospital and North Central Baptist Hospital. It’s been a wonderful experience for me, a transforming experience ministry which has really made me grow in my spirituality.

I met Dan Duet here when he came to Holy Name to offer the seven steps,  a wonderful talk and it was so inspiring, the seven habits of Christian living (“The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Catholics”), it was so wonderful and it inspired me if he would, we would pray both of us together and see whether we can do the ministry again in the Diocese of Homa Bay; and especially during this year when we are going to celebrate the 50th anniversary of St. Peter’s, Oyugis (Kenya), the parish where I was baptized, the parish where I was confirmed, received First Holy Communion, and the parish that is my parish.

So I am so glad we have been working on this, praying over it and we see this possibility that we can join together with the Diocese of Homa Bay to celebrate this great occasion at St. Peter’s, Oyugis, Parish.

So this trip is a three-week trip but most of it (laughing) may take us like traveling… two days going and two days coming back. But we have been praying over this so that he (Dan) may encounter and give the same talk to the priests in the Diocese of Homa Bay, the nuns, and the religious men and women. Then, on the eve to the celebration of St. Peter’s, if he would have the same talk/presentation to the parishioners of St. Peter’s.

As we plan to do this we will be in a program while he is giving a talk, having to do Adoration, and we’ll invite some of the priests to help with Confessions. This is only to prepare them to celebrate the goodness of God after 50 years of evangelization in St. Peter’s. And I think it will be something that is new to them, something that is inspiring, something that will really encourage them in their journey of faith in St. Peter’s.

So one thing why I invited Dan… as you know, the Church is one: one body, the universal Catholic Church. So when I saw this (the presentation) I thought (about) it and prayed over it. I know that this ministry will give Dan a good experience first, to encounter the Church in Africa: see how they pray, see how they worship, and see how they can also respond to the call. And out of that experience I imagine that Dan will also grow in his spirituality and encounter the unity of the Catholic Church not only here in America but also in Homa Bay Diocese, Oyugis, and other places.

And I think he can also grow this ministry, open up the same ministry back there (in Africa) and in collaboration pray so that the people may also grow in their spiritual life as Dan, too, will be doing.

I would ask you to support him first with your prayers so that this trip may be so fruitful in his life. May it make him also grow in his spirituality and also encounter the Church in Africa. And secondly I would also ask you to support him with any resources as he will be going there - most of his activities will be substantive but he also needed to have his bill clear. So I would ask you if you can open your heart, support him in this ministry as he takes to encounter the Christians back there in Africa.

Two-Twelve Ministries is a Catholic, evangelical ministry, a full-time vocation whereby I use various means to proclaim the Gospel - through retreats and parish missions, concerts of praise/worship music, and healing services, to name a few.

I am a parishioner of St. John Neumann Parish where I am a 4th Degree Knight and a Eucharistic Minister at a nearby nursing home. I am an ACTS brother and I serve the Archdiocese of San Antonio as the Co-Chair for the English Service Committee of the Charismatic Renewal.

I’ve brought ministry events all over the country but never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d have an opportunity to share the Gospel in Africa!

Last year I was invited to participate in this missionary opportunity by a priest here in San Antonio, Fr. Kennedy Nyumba. He is from the Diocese of Homa Bay in Western Kenya and currently providing ministry in the United States. When he invited me I was like… “Whaaaaattttttt?”…

The approach I am taking to all of this is that it might very well be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I know it will have a major impact on my spiritual and personal life, and, by extension, to the spiritual effectiveness of Two-Twelve Ministries.

As you might imagine, the cost for such a 3-week journey is quite extensive. The fundraising goal is $6000 to ensure every possible contingency is covered. Any amount over $6000 will go towards assistance for some of the parishes and villages we will be visiting. Fr. Kennedy has shared with me some of the needs of the local churches and I hope to bring financial relief. One of the advantages of this particular fundraiser is that I will personally be there to ensure the monies go directly to the churches that need it most.

The itinerary is still unfolding but I will begin ministry very shortly after my arrival in Nairobi. There will be ministry events in at least 5 villages/towns in Western Kenya including the opportunity to give a comprehensive presentation to the priests and nuns of the Diocese of Homa Bay.

PRAYER SERVICE ON JUNE 28
In the video Fr. Kennedy speaks of an event that will take place on the eve of the 50th Jubilee celebration of his home parish, St. Peter’s. This will be a day-long event that will culminate with a special Prayer Service in the evening. At this prayer service I will be presenting prayer requests I’ve been collecting for nearly a year. So if you have any prayer requests, please e-mail them to me or mail them to me at: Two-Twelve Ministries, c/o Dan Duet, 7510 Leading Oaks, Live Oak, TX, 78233.
