The 2016 "Shining Stars" Summer Dance Program is an outreach program that strives to connect youth from all areas of Orange County to dance in higher education. We aim to provide an opportunity for 100 children, ages 5-12 years old, to attend our week-long program, which will take place on the UC Irvine campus from August 15th-20th. Every day, they will train in various genres of dance with our caring program teachers, who will strive to create a fun and safe environment. We want to cultivate their creative expression by giving them an artistic outlet for their individual voices!
We also seek to introduce the children to future dance careers and the role that dance has within higher educational institutions. Through fun workshops, we wish to engage deeper thinking about dance technique, dance from around the world, dance on the university level, and dance in the professional realm.
The program has a tuition cost of $500 per child, but hope to provide scholarships to attend for those who demonstrate financial need. Our plan is to provide at least 50 children with scholarships, both partial and full.
But we cannot achieve our goals alone. This is where you can help us give these children a unique dance experience!
We aim to provide the children with the following:
-Scholarships to attend based on financial need
transportation to and from the program
Lunch, drinks, and snacks every day of the program
a "Shining Stars" participation t-shirt and water bottle
-A performance opportunity on the last day of the program (a professional showcase - with lighting, music, and a stage crew - for their families and friends to watch what they've learned)
-A team of at least 12 dedicated teachers (who are UCI undergraduate dance majors)
Your donations to our cause will go directly towards providing these goods/services for our program participants! With your help, we can make sure that every child gets the full program experience!
Breakdown of Donations:
$10 = transportation for 1 child
$20 = showcase production costs for 1 child
$30 = t-shirt and water bottle for 1 child
$40 = showcase production costs for 2 children
$50 = transportation for 5 children
$60 = food and drinks for 2 children
$70 = transportation for 7 children
$80 = showcase production costs for 4 children
$90 = t-shirt and water bottle for 3 children
$100 = instruction costs for 1 child
$125 = quarter scholarship for 1 child to attend
$150 = studio rental costs for 1 child
$250 = half scholarship for 1 child to attend
$500 = full scholarship for 1 child to attend

About the "Shining Stars" Dance Organization
The "Shining Stars" Dance Organization reaches out to children from all areas of Orange County through dance summer programs, which are made with support from UC Irvine's Claire Trevor School of the Arts. We cultivate creative expression by giving our program participants an outlet for their artistic voices. We spark an interest in dance in higher education and the professional realm through workshops given by UCI students and dance professionals. We engage deeper thinking about critical issues in dance through discussions of body image, improvisation, and cultural dances from around the world. We build long-lasting friendships across the community by giving these children a common connection: a love for dance. Our goal is to provide a unique dance experience that challenges them mentally and physically, but also impacts them emotionally.
