Ride for Redd

Three women and six horses are on a mission to get people passionate about wild salmon and to put the "Redd Back in Redfish Lake." There is a lack of knowledge about the dangerously low numbers of the returning salmon!  We are here to fix that.

We - Kat Cannell, Katelyn Spradley and MJ Wright - by horse, are uniting our home town community and the greater United States to protect our wild salmon. Launching April 18th, we will ride from Astoria, Oregon following the Columbia, Snake and Salmon River drainages to Redfish Lake, in Stanley, Idaho. We will follow the Chinook and Sockeye salmon to our home. Like these resilient fish we will make the 900 mile migration and gain over 6,500 feet of elevation. We predict to make it to the waters of Redfish Lake by June 3rd.

(Kat and Katelyn setting off from Sunset Beach in Astoria, Oregon on April 18)

We are riding to celebrate and protect these incredible wild salmon who return home to the heart of Idaho's wilderness. It is imperative we act to protect them NOW!

We - Meredith Richardson and Whitney McNees - are documenting this expedition in order to address the dwindling numbers of this native species and explore what it will take to see the counts thrive again.

The film REDD by Nomadic Lens Productions will aim to spread the mission of 'Ride for Redd’ to encourage immediate action to see wild salmon return to their spawning beds in the Sawtooth Valley and to 'Make Redfish Redd Again'!

We are raising funds for our expedition, the documentary, and for Idaho Rivers United, to help them continue their mission to remove the four dams on the Lower Snake.

You ladies ROCK. Growing up in Gig Harbor, WA and knowing so many families that rely on salmon fishing for their livelihood makes this extra near and dear to my heart. #SaveTheSalmon #MakeRedfishRedd
