Since I was born I have done my best to not ask people for anything. However, this time, I truly need your support. Here's why:

Who I Am

Hello, this is Brendan and I am writing on behalf of Shelfie, Inc. Shelfie (Share yourself) creates fundraising photo and video campaigns for nonprofits. Shelfie aims to enhance awareness, engagement and retention, while creating communities around a cause.

At the age of 2 I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and almost died. From that day onward my family and I started raising funds between $20,000 - $30,000 a year, but as I grew up, I started to question if that was actually enough.

After watching how successful the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge was I become intrigued with the idea of using photos and videos to raise awareness around a cause. ALS raised $115m in just 2 months from over 17 million submissions. They had trouble getting donors a second time and did not really tell you what ALS is: a degenerative nerve disease. Participants poured ice over their head to get into a glimpse into the world of someone with ALS, who has constant tingling sensation due to nerve damage.

 How it Works
1. First, we work with nonprofit to create a challenge specific to their cause so we can raise awareness

2. Second, we launch the campaign/challenge on our mobile platform

3. Third, users create content in the form of a photo or video and submit it, with the option of donating

4. Lastly, users also compete to win prizes, connect with each other, and the nonprofit receives 90% of the donations

How Does Shelfie Make money?

It is free for a donor to sign up and free for the nonprofit to host a challenge. However, the nonprofit will first be screened and cannot host their own challenge. We will take 10% of donations to cover operational expenses, which is our break-even point. Where Shelfie can become profitable is through upselling a Customer Relationship Management platform, which gives data analysis to nonprofits. Also, sponsored challenges by corporations. Our overall goal is to take the least amount of money possible and help raise more awareness around causes, as well as funds to actual tackle the problem that created the cause.

Where the Funds Will Go

$10,000 to finalize our mobile software platform

$5,000 for legal fees

$2,000 for our online platform

$2,000 on advertising

$1,000 for events

In reality, we could use more than $20,000, but this amount will give us enough to survive for at least 6 months and get to the next stage of our product.

We need the funds by April of 2017 so that we can prepare for a late April and early summer launch.

Another option for helping:

Bring or mail a check made out to Shelfie, Inc. to:

Shelfie, Inc.
66 Jeri Lynn Circle
Warwick, RI 02886

Shelfie will get the funds immediately and there will be no platform or transaction fees.

 THANK YOU

We cannot thank you enough for taking the time to consider donating to Shelfie. Your donation will help us build out our platform so we can start helping nonprofits. Many nonprofits have a strong mission and passion, but lack technological infrastructure – we are here to help improve this area so that more of a donation can go to the actual cause.
