Sharon’s Story

My name is Sharon Williams, I am 54 years of age and I work as a cashier and live in Jamaica. I am the mother of one son 29 years old who resides in Canada.

My son who lives in Canada, decided to file for me, and in December 2015, while doing my medical the doctor discovered a lump in my right breast.

I was sent to do a mamogram and an ultrasound. The mamogram showed nothing, but the ultrasound showed a large mass in my right breast which had spread and caused a smaller one in the left.

Why didnt I know about it before? Well my body tricked me.

I’ve always considered my breast lumpy, the doctors called it fibersistic. I’ve had a lump before which was painful and I had it drained. I was told it was benign.

About 12 years ago I had an operation on my back for a pinched nerve. My main focus over the years since then had been on my back to keep it as strong as possible and was even happy that I never again saw any lumps. So when this painless lump developed I didn't even feel it, so I was in shock to find out I had breast cancer.

No one in my family has ever suffered from any form of cancer, so this was a shocker and I am now learning about it while asking myself what I did wrong, and why I didn't know it was there.

I was told by my doctor that they will have to cut it and test it to even know what stage cancer I have, but was told that based on the tests I have done before, it might be at stage 1 or 2.

I am a positive person and it is my intention to do all that is possible within my means to fight and beat this disease and with yours and God's help it is possible.
