Shapiro Ohana Lava Fund Relief

Donation protected
Aloha. We are humbly asking for your support in this time of need to help the Shapiro ʻOhana rebuild their life and secure housing for their beautiful family of five (plus two little dogs) due to the recent lava eruptions.

Dan and Thea Shapiro established their lives in Kapoho for the past 27 years. They were married at Green Lake and raised their two daughters, Lilah and Ella ages 16 and 12 in Kapoho.  Dan’s mother, Oma who is 85yrs old, eventually moved in with their family and has lived with them happily for years. Dan and Thea are both working passionately as educators in the Puna community and have always been so generous to others. We can continue to see that as they would like to pledge to donate half of what is raised to local charities who are supporting the families who have also been displaced.

With the start of the eruptions in May, the Shapiro’s made the decision to send Dan’s mother Oma to live in the mainland with family for her safety. They were able to retrieve some of their momentos out of the home but unfortunately lost most of their possessions when home was taken by the fast moving lava breakout on June 4, 2018.

Right now the Shapiro’s are looking to rent a home that is big enough for their family as Oma would also wish to move back to Hawaiʻi to live with them. We want to find them stability in this time of transition and secure a homestead to keep this family together.

As dear friends of the ʻohana, we humbly ask for your kokua to help ease some of their financial burden while they secure a long-term lease and rebuild their lives. Please continue to lift our community up in prayer and support if you aren’t able to make monetary donations. Any leads on housing and kind words of encouragement are also appreciated. Every little bit of Aloha goes a long way ❤️
