My name is Shane Nicholls and I am a 22 year old graduate from the University of Winnipeg with a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Biology and Biospychology. One day I would like to pursue a career in medicine, however that will have to wait. I have decided to follow a dream that started in St. James and one I started to believe in after playing a year of NCAA college tennis at Colorado State University in Pueblo, Colorado.
The dream of playing professional tennis at the ATP level internationally was finally cemented when in 2016, I won the provincial championship and became one of the first of two players in Manitoba history to gain entrance into the professional National Bank Challenger event held in Winnipeg. Today, I want to become the 2nd person in Manitoba history to achieve ATP status and represent not only Manitoba, but Canada at an international level.
My dream is stronger than ever. This summer, I am planning to compete in International Tennis Federation (ITF) Future tournaments across Canada and the U.S to build up my professional ranking. Once the North American season is over, in the Fall I will be shifting my focus across seas to Europe where I will be competing in tournaments across Greece, France, Italy, and others to gain experience and compete against the best players in the world.
Unfortunately, costs can add up very quickly when you combine travel, hotels, food, and tournament entry fees. I am committed to finding the money for these expenses and I am asking for you to consider supporting me and my dream of playing professional tennis. In these tough economic times, I understand we are asked to support a myriad of causes all of which are worthy of our hard earned dollars but hope you can make a gift of any size towards my goal.
