Shane Reese's Medical Fund

Donation protected
My nephew, Shane Allen Reese, was crossing a street and was struck by a car last Wednesday, August 23rd, 2017. He was on his way home from the first day of his Sophomore year of High School. He sustained quite a few fractures, internal bleeding, and there is still potential for neurological damage. The extent we do not know as of yet. He has been through excruciating pain, and is lucky to still be alive! Thanks given to the dedication of the EMT first responders, the hard work of the hellicopeter response team, and the amazing staff at St. Louis Childrens Hospital where he is currently in their Intensive Care Unit.
We do not yet know many details about how this will affect the future of his life, and out of respect for his privacy I do not want to go into more details about his injuries.  I will, however, say that he will be hospitalized for weeks and has undergone one surgery and is expected to need an additional 3, if not more. He will be going through extensive physical therapy for months, if not longer, and I expect him to have many obstacles to overcome, both phisically and mentally, throughout all this.
I am his uncle, Jeff Goodall, and I have always been very close to him.  I am setting this GoFundMe up for not only Shanes necessities, but also for some help for his family. They will need help with lost wages from  missing work both this week and until he is stablizied enough for them to return.  I am also asking for help with transportation costs back and forth once they do return to work,  babysitters for his two younger brothers (as this was something Shane would often do,) and potentially a decent laptop (if needed), so he can keep up with his studies from a hospital bed. (Not to mention a way to keep the kid from going crazy staring at hospital walls and listening to the beeps of machines 24 hours a day for the next few weeks.)
I don't know if $5,000 is going to be a bit too much, or way too little at this point, but we will ONLY be using this for things that him and his immediate family absolutely need. For the sake of transparency: I will be keeping a detailed spending list and explination of why we needed to spend that I will gladly make available to anyone who donated. I will also be updating this GoFundMe page as we use funds. If we have excess money that we do not need we will be donating 100% of it back to St. Louis Childrens Hospital.  Thank you for any and all contributions and please count your blessings in life. I know we are.

EDIT: I believe my initial goal for this may have been set to high so I lowered it. I'm still not sure what insurance is and is not going to cover, so I shot a little high at first, but we'll tackle that obstacle when we get to it. We are not big fans of the potential abuse that can come with crowdfunding and we do not want to take more money than is needed. Thank you all again for your support.
