Shana's Masters World Weightlifting
I had pretty much decided that I was going to retire from competition. After being diagnosed with stage 3 adrenal exhaustion and ending up with some injuries that seemed insurmountable, I thought I would certainly be hanging up my athlete's hat. Taking almost 18 months off refreshed and rejuvenated me and after doing a few weightlifting meets "just for fun," (weightlifting has been a passion of mine since CrossFit got me hooked on it in 2008) I ended up qualified for the 2016 Masters World Weightlifting Championship. Retired...??!! Right.
Words really are inadequate to describe how honored I am to think that I could possibly represent the USA at Worlds and I can scarcely believe it's happening at this point in my life. And so now, I find myself training for competition again as a 40-44 yr, 63kg weightlifter. I hadn't anticipated these meets "just for fun" would lead down the path of my competing on the world stage or what that would mean for me financially.
The competition will take place in Heinsheim, Germany in October 2016. As you might expect, the cost of competing combined with traveling to, from and around Germany is high. Add to that athlete fueling and services, entry fees, etc, and a trip of this magnitude is not currently within my means.
This brings me to the reason I've necessarily started this GoFundMe campaign. It seems that I must again rely on the generosity of an amazing community. I would be thrilled to represent our great country on the world stage in weightlifting and make all of you proud for our sport on the international scene!
If you'd like to support my goal, I hope you'll consider donating towards my fund. I already feel such gratitude for the opportunites I've been given as an athlete over the years and am excited for this next leg of the journey. If you're reading this, you've likely been a part of it in some way over the years, and I'd like you to know how appreciative I am for your support.

The trip to Germany is SOOOOO close - I leave in less that 2 weeks - eek!! I'm excited.... also a little nervous, but mostly excited. If you're following my training on Instagram ( http://www.instagram.com/shana_a ) you know things are going really well and I've hit several lifetime PRs in the last few weeks. This is remarkable to me as a 40-year-old woman. I can keep getting stronger and fitter - so much for conventional wisdom telling us that aging is some sort of inevitable disease, right?!
The fundraising has been very successful up to this point and we have just a little bit left to go. The time crunch has prompted me to make the decision to auction off some of my CrossFit Games memorabilia. Currently listed on eBay are several "Alverson" jerseys. These are one-of-a-kind items that have no duplicates. Most were actually worn at the CF Games at least once (and no, I'm sorry, they no longer contain any traces of Unicorn sweat and/or tears ;) LOL
I'm including the links to the items - feel free to share if you know someone who might be interested. There are more items but these are the ones I currently have posted. I will post more as time permits.
And, of course, if you have no desire to own a piece of CrossFit Games history and would rather just show your support, every single donation is meaningful and appreciated.
Thank you all for being so engaging - your enthusiasm drives me more than you know and on the days that dragging myself to the gym seems impossible, the comments, messages, emails and encouragement I've received from so many of you keeps me going.
I have so much to be thankful for and if you are reading this message, rest assured that YOU are one of those things.
Training is going well and I compete in less than FOUR WEEKS!! I can't believe how quickly the time is flying by. I've been making progress training here in California - some PRs this month if you'd like to follow along...

Here's a 1kg Clean & Jerk PR at 97kg/214lbs: https://www.instagram.com/p/BJUTuH7j_hn/
I'm still short just a few dollars to meet my fundraising goal for the trip - every donation is met with the utmost gratitude from myself and I am so appreciative to you all for the support and encouragement you've shown.
Thanks for everything, y'all!!
It's been a while since I updated you all so I wanted to just send out a quick note.
Training is going very well for me. I've been lifting at Max's Gym ( http://www.maxsgymoakland.com/ ) for a few weeks now and I not only love the coaching here, I love how supportive the environment is. The whole team has been amazing and welcoming and I am glad to have landed here :)
I think most of you know that I am the new co-host of the HER Body™ podcast ( http://body.io/ )
This week, Alex and I talk about, guess what ? Weightlifting!! More specifically about my training and how I adjust my fuel intake to stay within my weight class but continue to make strength gains.

I am still fund-raising for the trip to Germany. I've surpassed my 50% goal and I am so flattered and thrilled that so many of you want to invest in my success. There are less than 8 weeks left until I get on a plane and fly to Europe (my first trip outside the lower 48!) and I'm getting really excited.
Every penny helps and am so appreciative to those of you who have already contributed ... EIGHT WEEKS - EEK!!!
Thank you all so much for the love and support!
