The City of Lompoc says Officer Miguel Grijalva died early Tuesday morning while off duty and outside the city limits. At this time, officials believe suicide to be the cause of death.

Officials say the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office is handling patrols in Lompoc for the day so that Lompoc Police Department staff can be with friends and family. Counseling has also been made available to them.

Grijalva had been with the department for three years. Prior to that, he served in the United States Marine Corps. He most recently served with the B BTRY of the 1-143rd Field Artillery, a California National Guard unit based out of Richmond, CA.

The purpose of this fund is to help the family deal with funeral expenses. Funds raised will only be used for this purpose. The money will go directly to Miguels widow, Mayra Grijalva. After several people inquired about expanding the purpose of the gofundme, funds that do no go towards helping covering funeral expenses will be used to support Mayra and her children.

This GoFundMe was starting by fellow members of the 1-143rd FA and is mained by the unit. All questions can be sent to [email redacted]
