Why special effects?
I've always loved art, in so many different forms. Growing up, and still to this day, I dabble in painting, sketching, digital drawing, sculpting, and any other type of visual medium that has become available. I took advanced artistry classes in high school, and I was the editor-in-chief of my school's creative art's magazine. So, suffice it to say, I've always known I wouldn't be happy unless I was doing something creative.
Special effects makeup combines all of my loves: art, movies, horror, and the chance to create something lasting and impactful. I believe that, either in my home of Michigan or somewhere out there in the world, I can become a successful influencer in the SFX field, and I'm excited to begin putting in the work necessary to do so.
Getting an Education
I began my pursuit with the Michigan Makeup Academy in September of 2015. There, I had an amazing instructor, and I met a number of other budding artists who I now consider close friends, and who I've already begun working with professionally. I feel that the last year with MMA has completely changed, for the better, both my skills as a makeup artist and my love of the art.
Once my SFX program has been paid off, I hope to return to MMA to attend their program in beauty makeup, which will make me a more valuable asset on set.
What I Hope to Do
My ultimate goal is to become a full-time makeup artist working primarily on film sets, either locally or out of state. I plan, in the next several years, to exhaust as many local film opportunities as I can, and then to potentially relocate out of state, once I feel I'm ready for bigger projects.
Why Do I Need GoFundMe?
I hate asking others for money, I'll say that now. I like to consider myself a hard-working person, and over the last year I've put in a lot of effort trying to make ends meet in regards to my monthly school payments. Really, now, the only thing truly holding me back from pursuing makeup on a professional, lucritive scale is the debt I owe MMA, as most of the time I could be finding freelance or local film jobs is currently being spent at my part-time retail job.
