Matthews Silent Victim Severed Paw

Donation protected
Bright eyes dance - yet flash his pain so well.

October, 8, 2016 Hurricane Matthew devistated many of our surrounding areas. As a photopgrapher, I felt the need to capture this raw moment on film. I dont know why. Something told me I NEEDED to go.
Yes - I am the one lone car on the highway heading into the storm.

Hurricane Matthew held more power than one could ever imagine. It almost felt as if we were pawns in a game. We stood in the eye, waiting and watching. We were not alone. Out of the flooded woods hobbled this poor brave pup.
We couldn't leave him. Bleeding & standing on the road. So we loaded him up & brought him home.

We arrived home safe with the pup in tow just before sunrise this morning. home.
PLEASE NOTE:
He was found aprox 30 miles inland from Oak Island - I believe we were in SC. Unfortunately I cant even give you a road name or town. The roads were so bad that you simply took any road that wasn't blocked ( there wernt very many )

We have taken him to the the vet & are currently caring for his needs. He is unbelievably sweet and trusting. He has no microchip. We are also searching for an owner but based on his weight I would say he hadn't been fed regular meals in awhile. Owner or not he needs help now. I am trying my best to do what I can but unfortunately cannot afford the thousands needed.

We havent decided if we are going to keep him or look for a home should an owner not be found. If you are potentially interested in adopting please contact me. Should this be the case we will be very carefully in screening for a potential home. He has already dealt with enough. He needs simply needs a life of security, love & warmth.

Major Issues
- Hind foot is completley severed. Hind leg is fractured in several places.  He has a deep impalement wound on his thigh - ( almost looks like a bullet wound ) He will need several surgeries to repair the damage. He will also need a full amputation on his leg.  Vet said at least $4,000 but probably closer to 7. Ouch. I cant do this alone. Even if you cant donate please simply share. This pup is young & dont come any sweeter. He deserves a chance.

Should more money be raised than needed. The remainder will go to help other rescue dogs in need.

________________UPDATE______________

We have decided that should we not find this pup's owners he will remain here, part of our family forever. We are calling him Matthew in the meantime.

WE have done it! Carolina's Veterinary Medical Hospital has generouslly volunteered to take care of Matthew free of charge! I am humbled by their generosity.,
Matthew will undergo surgery Friday Morning for a full amputation & nuetering. He is expected to make a full recovery :)

  So what about the funds?

We are assembling a team of trained volunteers  and are heading back to help animals impacted by the storm wherever we can. We are taking animal  neccesities to the areas hardest hit areas.  Some residents simply didnt evacuate because they didnt want to leave their pets or were on the outskirts & are weathering out the damage. We will be helping wherever we can.
We will be heading out Saturday Morning with a caravan of vehicles loaded with food water medical necessities crates & cages. If it has a heartbeat we will do our best to help in any way we can. I am networking with different rescues who can take in animals should the need arise. We know it is bad, we know we can help. Even if its simply giving vicitms a dry place to lay & enough food and water to see them through. We are prepared to bring animals back should the need arise ( I would say it is almost certain) We will be documenting everything. I will post updates on Sunday. We will be in contact with the humane society & other rescue groups to help pair any missing pets with their owners.

We are not going in blind. We wil not take extreme risks & we be as safe as humanly possible. We have helped in crisis situations before. And many have aided in animal rescue. All further donations will go directlly to the neccesities & medical care of animals injured in the hurricane.

Thank You Internet - You are wonderful. We couldn't have done this without you. Not only have you helped save this precious pup - but many, many more.

We will be sure to keep you updated :)

Who are you?

I am Neva Starr Walker, my son is Isaac Eads. I am a photographer, artist, animal lover & mother. I am the face behind Twisted Metals. you can visit my shop at https://www.etsy.com/shop/NevaStarr
I run a small artisan business making unique metal sculptures & art in a studio & shop behind my residence. This also allows me to care for injured & orphened animals while we work. We aren't currentlly associated with any one rescue. We simply have bleeding hearts, courage, common sense and a desire to help.
I have over 36yrs experience handling rescuing & caring for animals of every type. I grew up in a household that raised exotic animals for a living.
I spent several years as a full time & volunteer wildlife rehabilitator for NC.

Where are we located?  - Ironically we reside in Matthews NC

How will you get the funds to the animals in need ?

Lol - By kayak or canoe... All jokes aside we have also had stores donate or give us reduced prices on pet goods, foods & medication. We are purchasing some essentials to take for the animals such as antibiotics syringes & pedialite.

I am trying to reserve as much as possible for the medical bills of any injured rescues should they be with us or another organization. I am taking this very seriouslly & being very careful with the funds as I dont want them wasted. I am making the most out of every single dollar donated. I promise.

Disclaimer - I Neva Starr Walker will be withdrawing these funds personally. I will be soeley in charge of how these  funds are allocated, spent and dispersed for the animals affected by Hurricane Matthew. I will post updates on a regular basis as long as this campaign remains opens.
