15-year old's adventure to China!

Donazione protetta
Hello Everyone:)

My name is Leila, and I have created this gofundme campaign for my 15 year old littler sister Nadia, to help raise money so she can participate in an amazing school program which will send her to China for the summer. I know there are so many people on this site with incredible projects and ideas, but let me give you some background on my little sister and why she deserves this rare opportunity!

Both my sister and I grew up in sunny California, with our very multicultural, rather eccentric  family. Our father is an Egyptian international marketing businessman with a passion for poetry. Our mother is a Russian artist and specialist in Higher Education who grew up with a biochemist for a father and therefore would spend her days running barefoot in the Russian seaside and sleeping under the stars. As a result, my little sister and I were lucky to grow up in a very creative and encouraging environment.

My father always encouraged us to take advantage of every opportunity that came our way, and our mother always encouraged us to be one with nature and have compassion towards others (especially animals).  Nadia grew up with a passion for nature, animals, and traveling. She is the kindest soul I have ever met, alongside my Mother.

Unfortuantely, because our family has faced a lot of financial challenges over the years (as have many across the country and globe), she has not been able to participate in as many activities as a child should. Due to my Dad's job, we relocated many times when we where younger, sometimes even to different countries like Dubai.

While this was fun, it put a toll on Nadia because it meant a lot of homeschooling and not a lot of friends. As a result, she spent her days helping my mom and taking care of our pets (2 dogs, 3 cats and a snake). She would make her own breakfast, help out at home, and even started her own "Pony-Bead" business to try and help my mom after my dad retired due to his health. I have attached pictures of her amazing work and a link for her online store

For the past year and half, my family has been living in Monterey Bay, California - a dream place for nature lovers! Nadia began spending her after school hours volunteering with a Marine Biology program for youth with the Monterey Bay Aquarium. She has been traveling around the city to advocate for the environment and wildlife safety. She also
volunteered for the Pebble Beach Equestrian Center for their 1st Annual IEA show, and with the Monterey Bay 6th Annual Whale Fest.

My little  sister never asks for anything for herself, so when she told me about this study-abroad program, I right away thought of how I could help her. Her high school is offering an AMAZING study-abroad opportunity to spend a month in China, through an organization called ISA High School They offer cultural and language immersion programs for high school students, with aim the to foster "independence, cross-cultural sensitivity, and global citizenship."

Nadia has had a fascination with the East Asian region for the past few years, and even began to learn Japanese by watching movies and anime cartoons. I know how much this opportunity would mean to her, especially since it focuses on culture, the environment, how to be a good citizen and help others, and history.

Our problem:

The fee is nearly $6,000 (including airfare).
My father has been retired on disability for the past few years, and my mother is single handedly financing the household and taking care of my father and her elderly mother. I am currently working in Egypt, and trying to save up some money to help Nadia, but it is not that easy!

The program:

This amazing program will offer her:

- Tour of the City God Temple
- Visit the Bund of Shanghai
- Tai chi classes
- Bianlian performance
- Calligraphy classes

It focuses on the Discovery Model, which teaches students the following:

1. Intercultural
2. Historical
3. Sociopolitical
4. Professional
5. Environmental

We need to reserve her a spot by April 1,2016, with a $200 deposit, and buy her  the plane ticket as soon as possible before prices go up.

The deadline to pay the fees is May 30, 2016.

How this would help Nadia:

Please help me send my sister to China for the summer! It would mean the world to her and my parents. She already has planned to start a blog if she goes on this trip, to update everyone about her experiences and what she is learning. Her goal in life is to become a marine biologist and lawyer so that she can help both animals and people. Please help her dream come true so that she can one day help yours.
