Hello! It's your friendly Socceresq, and I'm hoping people can help me out with my goal. As most of you following me know, I've been covering the #SaveTheCrew fight, writing about the various legal issues at play. We've reached the first major turning-point in the case.
The defendants (Major League Soccer/Precourt Sports Ventures) have filed a motion to dismiss the entire lawsuit . If successful, the case would be dismissed (subject to appeal, but let's not go there), and MLS/PSV would be able to move the Columbus Crew to Austin, Texas. The hearing is set for September 4 , and I'd love to be there to cover it.
What will your donation cover: My roundtrip flight from Seattle to Columbus, as well as the hotel and incidentals. My tentative plan is to fly into town on Sunday September 2, and return Wednesday September 5. I'll be flying coach, and I found some reasonably priced (yet clean) hotels downtown, so I won't need to rent a car. I'm also going to purchase the trip insurance, in the event the hearing is moved or cancelled.
What will I be doing: A lot! The hearing itself is open to the public, so I plan to be there live-blogging the event. I'll be providing my insight and legal expertise in the case as I've done throughout this process to help those who didn't go to law school follow along. Also, I'm in discussions to do a Q & A with local media, and perhaps do a podcast and a roundtable to discuss the case. Finally I'll be hoping to do some interviews for my site.
My goal is to get this squared away by the end of next week or so, since it's short notice and flight/hotel prices aren't getting any cheaper. If you've enjoyed my work and want to help me cover this big hearing, I'd appreciate it. Any questions, feel free to ask. Thanks!
