Send SD U13 Girls to Nationals!

On June 18th, 2018 the unimaginable happened!

A U13 girls soccer team from Sioux Falls S.D. won the Mid-West Regional President’s Cup Championship in Ohio led by coaches Brandon Barkus and Curt Scheafer.  In a Regional event, 1 team in each age division from each state earns the opportunity to compete. The DASC U13 girls, representing South Dakota, started off with a win against Ohio South. They followed that up the next day with a win over Missouri and secured semi-final advancement with a win over Ohio North.



A semi-final game v. Illinois was one for the books!

After 70 min of constant battling, the game was tied 1-1 at the end of regulation. The team got down early in OT but displayed heart, persistence, and teamwork and got a goal with less than two minutes left to end OT in a 2-2 tie.   After 90 min of play in 100 degree heat, penalty kicks were going to determine the winner. The U13 girls showed their mental toughness and were victorious with to some incredible goalkeeping and striking finesse!



Championship Monday  

The championship game was another hard fought battle against a familiar foe, Ohio South.  Both teams knew the other would raise their intensity, but the S.D. girls were determined to play at their own level.  They dug into their S.D. roots and wouldn’t give up, winning 4-2. Now being titled the champions, they will represent the Midwest Region (and S.D.) at the National President’s Cup Tourney July 12-15 in Indianapolis.



On to Nationals!

Only 4 teams in the United States claimed this advancement opportunity and the DASC U13 girls is one of them! These 18 young ladies look forward to the challenge of competing against Idaho, Texas, and Maryland in their quest for a National Title.  They will play a round-robin Thursday-Saturday, and have one more game on Sunday, either the Championship or 3rd place game.  

Unexpected Win = Unexpected Costs

The unexpected win and short timeline brings financial challenges for the team. The support received from Go Fund Me will be used to pay for team travel expenses such as a charter bus ($7000), hotel costs ($20,000), and athlete nourishment ($4000) to name a few. This is a HUGE opportunity for the girls, the state, and area youth soccer because it has been countless years since a S.D. soccer team has represented at the NATIONAL level.
