Send necessities to Puerto Rico

I am Katie Adams from Chicago, and my fiance and I are sending basic necessities to his family and friends in Carolina, Puerto Rico.

On January 21, 2017, my partner Sebastian proposed to me, and his family in Puerto Rico welcomed me with open arms. Throughout this time, we have created an inseperable bond and they are truly part of my chosen family.

Over the months, we started saving for our wedding, excited that our families would soon blend together and we could all celebrate on our very special day.

And then Hurricane Maria devastated all of Puerto Rico, leaving family members and loved ones in dire need of basic necessities for survival.

Communication is poor with our friends and relatives in Puerto Rico, but when we do hear from them, it's apparent that our help is greatly needed. We are asking our community to contribute funds for purchasing and shipping items such as battery operated fans, mosquito repellent, canned goods, batteries, flashlights, baby diapers, formula, and more.

Sebastian and I are dedicating 100% of our wedding savings to this effort, but the need is great and additional financial support is needed. In addition to purchasing items, we predict shipping them will be expensive. You can learn more about how we donated our wedding fund on this ABC 7 News segment: http://abc7chicago.com/puerto-rico-hurricane-relief-donations-pour-in-from-chicago/2457154/

We are using funds to purchase items requested by loved ones on the island and then shipping them directly. The litany of items requested continues to grow, and we are thrilled to receive the news that deliveries can now be sent to PR starting on September 27th.

Many charities are pitching in to lift up Puerto Rico, but many of our loved ones will not experience immediate relief from these efforts, so we are taking matters into our own hands.

The economy was already poor in Puerto Rico before the storm, but now it's at a standstill. Our relatives have dwindling supplies and damaged homes, yet can't pay for necessities or repairs because they can't work without repaired workspaces and electricity. This is truly a financially devastating event, and your fellow American citizens in PR need your support.
