Send Juveni to Tulear University!

Donation protected
Juveni is one of the most driven and dazzling students I've ever met. Right now he is 600km away from home, studying English and French at Tulear University. His hunger for learning and go-getter (some might say cheeky) personality have brought him through some major challenges to graduate from high school in Fort Dauphin, and now we need your help to make his dream come true, to continue his studies at university!

Your donations will enable him to lift himself out of hardship, broaden his horizons, and become a skilled, experienced ecotourism guide, teacher, leader, or follow whatever path his heart desires.

Juveni was one of the top students in my English and ecotourism classes when I worked as a conservation research assistant in Sainte Luce, Madagascar - a remote village rich in wildlife and natural resources but economically poor and threatened by mining. He takes every opportunity to connect with international visitors and pick up new vocabulary and intercultural insights. He was also one of four carefully selected students who trained as ecotourism guides with SEED Madagascar (Azafady) that year. He became a great friend (and excellent dance teacher) to me during a challenging year.

Juveni missed a year of high school due to health and financial reasons - his parents have a small shop in the village and just about get by. But he returned and worked hard to pass his final exams with good grades, with financial support I was luckily in a position to provide. College fees, however, are outside of my budget this year, so I'm asking you kindly, if you have anything to pay forward at the start of this bright, new, hope-filled year, please donate it to this appeal. Juveni deserves to have his hard work rewarded, and I know he will put his qualifications to great use. It would make me, and anyone who has met him while volunteering in Sainte Luce, so happy to see him succeed.

How will your donations be spent?

Your kind donations have already paid for Juveni's registration fees for the year (€120), study materials (€20), several months of tuition fees (approx. €20 per month), rent (approx. €15 per month), food (approx. €36 per month) and transport for that time. Further donations will continue to cover these expenses, keeping him housed, healthy, and happily studying until the end of his course.

A good bicycle would reduce Juveni's overall transport costs for the year, but will require a large up front cost (90 - 120 euro).

Extra funds pay for transfer fees and emergency expenses like doctors' bills.

Any funds we receive which Juveni doesn't need for his own studies will be donated to another very dedicated, 13-year-old pupil from the same village, who has just returned to school after a year of absence due to financial hardship. I predict he will make an excellent chef de quartier (village mayor) when he's older! Misaotra betsaka! Thank you very much!
