Secure The Call

Welcome to Secure the Call, a program designed to collect old cell phones and, after a little work we redistribute them to those who need a cell phone for the purpose of calling 911 in the event of an emergency.

Secure the Call is a national coalition of over 400 organizations including Police and Sherrif’s departments, Battered Women’s Shelters and Senior Citizen Centers.

Any phone that can be turned on can be used to call 911. It’s always a free call and it will connect someone to the nearest emergency operator.  If you have a cell phone, you’re always close to getting help.
But if you don’t have a phone, you could be in trouble.

That’s where Secure the Call comes in.

Our goal is to make available a cell phone to anyone who needs one.  And best of all, the program is free for anyone that requests our 911 phones. We pay for all of the expenses and never charge the person or organization that receives our free phones.

We need your help.  As an all-volunteer organization, we rely solely on the generosity of the community for everything we do.  We're raising funds for 2 purposes.

1.  To create a nationwide army of volunteers that can help us in their local communities.  We need to advertise and create a database of the people that are willing to get involved.

2.  Most of our collected phones are donated to us in our unique cellphone collection barrels.  We use these for 2 purposes.  1. We have a little over 300 permanent barrels in stores, libraries and Police Departments.  And, 2. We have a number of companies and organizations that, once a year, hold a one-month cellphone drive on our behalf.

Several years ago we raised enough money to purchase 500 barrels.  Over time, the barrels have to be replaced with new ones (the barrels are made of paper and have a shelf life of about 3 years).   Each barrel, including the barrel and all the other parts of it - cost $100 each.  We're hoping, with your help, to purchase an additional 350 barrels.

Secure the Call has no paid employees.  For the past 13 years, we have had the great fortune to be working out of a free office and warehouse space, donated by a wonderful landlord that believes in what we're doing and continues to support our cause.

With your help - we'll continue to help local communities all across the USA feel a little safer by providing them with used and unwanted cell phones that can be used to call 911 in the case of an emergency.

Thanks for your time and help with our program.  We couldn't run it without great people like you.
