Secrets through a soundglass

Donation protected
"Secrets through a soundglass" is a music project that is bringing new contemporary classical music to Western Sydney and we need your help.

We are reaching out to the public to source donations for this extremely important project.  Why is it important?  Because it will be launching a new style of classical music in Western Sydney, at the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre in Penrith, NSW, Australia.   This is the first time that such a project has been launched outside the CBD of Sydney itself, because the majority of the projects have aimed at the establishments within the City.  Whilst this is to be celebrated, we are seeking to show that residents within Western Sydney, Blue Mountains and beyond, can appreciate such talents.

However, to make this a success, we need your help.  You see, we’ve got the venue booked, the compositions lodged and the performers ready to go but now we need the dollars to pay them.  Can you help us?  We’re only in need of $6000 but we need to have this raised by 24th February 2018 so that we can pay these musicians and have the show go ahead.

As you may be aware, the government has severely slashed funding to the arts sector in Australia.  What you may not be aware of is this: the arts fuel our imaginations which, in turn, channels our brains into those goods and services we are exposed to on a frequent basis such as: advertising, television shows, architectural design and fashion.  Could you imagine a world without any of these? Furthermore, there is a strong misconception that artists are well paid where, in fact, the opposite is more the truth.  Artists mainly perform their work for the love of what they do and to share their talents with their public.  For example, did you know that a guitarist MAY be lucky to earn $300 for a gig, or that a dancer may earn $100 for a segment?  It’s not a lot, is it? In fact, many artists have to work 2 or 3 jobs just to survive on a mediocre income.

As a result of the government’s cut to the arts, many projects have either gone by the wayside or have been left at the mercy of limited grants.  Like many before us, grants have been applied for but have not been forthcoming.  This is not to say that this project is any less important, it’s just that grant pools are stretched and don’t always fall within the deadlines of the projects at hand.

If you would like to help us achieve our goal of launching this amazing arts project in Western Sydney next year, please donate here.
