Students Compete with NASA Robots

Who are we
The Cabrillo Robotics Club was founded by Cabrillo College engineering and computer science students in the fall of 2014, at Aptos CA. What started as a club of 10 members working on drones & Arduinos, has evolved into a diverse team of over 30 members, all working towards a single goal; taking 1st place in the NASA Swarmathon competition, a nationwide engineering challenge designed to engage students of minority serving colleges in developing cooperative robotic algorithms that could one day be used in NASA’s Mission to Mars.

Our misson
Through our students’ outstanding teamwork and dedication, we managed to win the gold in the 2016 virtual competition and were fortunate enough to be chosen to compete in the second annual Swarmathon in 2017. As reigning champions in the virtual space, we hope to win first place in the physical competition, set to take place at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, April 18th-20th in 2017.

Why this is important
NASA's Swarmathon Competition aims to involve minority and underserved students in education and research. Through the competition the students further their knowledge in coding and robotics while also advancing technology for future NASA space exploration missions.

Having already spent close to two years working on this project, it’s natural for our members to want to witness the culmination of their combined efforts. Sadly, many of them lack the financial means to see this through, which is why we’re reaching out to you now.

How the money will be used
Any funds raised will go towards subsidizing travel expenses, and room & board. We'd greatly appreciate any help you could provide us in ensuring that all our members have the opportunity to enjoy the fruits of their labor, compete in this national competition and do our community proud. The Swarmathon is right around the corner, we have a mere two months to ensure this happens. Time is of the utmost importance; don’t wait - donate.

Your donations will go through the Cabrillo College Foundation, a non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization established in 1965. You may use the Federal Tax ID number 94-6121953.

We really appreciate your help in making this possible!
