A Flight to Recovery: Life, Loss and Healing

Donation protected
On March 14th 2019, two families lives were changed forever when a single-engine Cessna 172 fell out of the sky in the highly trafficked residential area of Lakeway, TX.   The plane miraculously avoided residential homes, a community swim center and an elementary school which were all in the immediate vicinity of where the plane went down.  The crash took the life of Kevin Henderson and left Scott Nelson fighting for his life.

The friendship of Scott Nelson and Kevin Henderson goes back over ten years when the two young men worked together at a local Best Buy.  Scott, following in his father's footsteps, eventually left Best Buy and followed his passion to become a commercial pilot.

Kevin was one of those individuals who was always doing everything for everyone else.  An extremely selfless angel whom walked among us here on earth.  After graduating high school, Kevin attempted to join the US Army and fly Apache helicopters.  Unfortunately, that didn't pan out for Kevin, but his love for flying never left him.  Kevin began expressing his interest in flying with Scott, and the two immediately connected.  Scott, another selfless family man, realized that this was an opportunity to not only share his own passion for flying, but to do something for one of his long-time friends who always put everyone else's needs before his own.

Scott told Kevin that every opportunity he got, he was going to get the two of them up in the air together, and he followed through on that promise.  Kevin was ecstatic for the opportunity to fly, and finally experience one of his life long passions.  Every time Scott would call Kevin to setup their next flight,  you could hear the excitement in Kevin's voice.  Kevin and Scott had been flying together for six months before the day of the crash.

Kevin Henderson leaves behind a pregnant wife, Jaclyn Henderson, and three daughters.

Scott Nelson has a long road to recovery, and is unable to return to his career as a commercial pilot for the extended future.  Scott's wife Jessica and their two year old son are by his side daily.  Jessica and Scott found out they were expecting their second child just a week before the crash.

Please help these two families in their time of need.
