Scott & Angela Bergner Fund

Scott Bergner, son and brother, has always been a fighter. Through ups and down, he has always found a way to persevere. And always with a gentle smile, his wife Angela at his side, and no matter what he was facing, never putting himself before the needs of others.

The same was true when he was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer in late November 2018. Rather than getting down about it, he and Angie simply rolled up their sleeves and leaned into it like any other challenge they’ve faced together.

By the first week in December, he learned the cancer had already spread from the lungs & lymph nodes to the brain. The course of treatment would be chemo first to hopefully reduce the cancer in his chest, followed by radiation treatments for the brain. However, fluid buildup in the chest and pneumonia prevented him from getting started. Surgery reduced the fluid and after recovering from the pneumonia, he underwent the chemo regimen.

Throughout this time he continued to work whenever and for as long as he could, once again more concerned for the burden put on his coworkers by his absence than his own well-being. As the cancer progressed, it became nearly impossible to work anymore, and he was forced to quit. Angie also had to leave her job to care for him.

Unfortunately, it was found the chemo was ineffective in reducing the cancer, so it was halted and focus shifted to the brain. However, Scott also started blacking out about this time. It was discovered that his heart was stopping, requiring him to have a permanent pacemaker inserted.

As he recovered from that surgery, fluid buildup once again dramatically affected his breathing, making it impossible to lay flat and remain still for the radiation. A "window" was made around the heart and a large tube was inserted to drain fluid, with a second tube in the chest cavity that Scott could drain himself. This was excruciating. Miserable, frustrated and needing to be there for Angie, Scott returned home to manage the drainage of fluid and recover so he could begin the radiation.

Throughout this medical journey, the real-world issues of money have never gone away. With no income coming in, resources exhausted, and creditors knocking, they began checking into every possible source for help, even selling whatever they could to raise some money. However, costs continue to build, Angie still cannot return to work and they are simply at an impasse.

Scott has always insisted on managing his own affairs, never asks for anything and even now, admitting that he needs help is very difficult for him. So we are asking for him.

He is still swinging at this cancer, and we continue to share our love and pray daily for time, comfort, peace, and yes, miraculous healing from our great healer, Jesus Christ.

If you are moved to help bring some financial peace to our beloved Scott and his wife Angie, we will be eternally thankful.
