Shannon Lucile Martin Science Scholarship
Donation protected
If you knew my sister, Shannon, you knew her kindness, curiosity and determination to make a difference in the world through scientific research. According to Shannon, it was Shawnee Heights physics teacher Laura Hirsch who really ignited her passion to pursue a career in science.
In Shannon’s memory, our family has awarded the Shannon Lucile Martin Science Scholarship to outstanding physics students attending Shawnee Heights High School since 2014. Last year, we provided three students with awards in the amounts of $500, $250 and $250. This year, we hope to fund three scholarships of $1,000, $500 and $500 and continue Shannon’s legacy to make a positive impact in the world through science and research. Your generosity helps future scientists fund their first semester of college!
Your donation is tax-deductible. Shawnee Heights High School will send you a form confirming your donation for tax purposes.

Junior and senior physics students design, conduct and present a scientific research project to compete for science and engineering scholarships, including the Shannon Lucile Martin Science Scholarship. A panel of judges that includes professors from the University of Kansas and Kansas State University, engineers, and scientists select the winning projects. Every year the judges are surprised by the depth of the students' scientific research and their commitment, enthusiasm and passion for science.
