Happy Hooves changes the lives of children in the Upstate of South Carolina, one stride at a time. Our non-profit therapeutic equestrian center helps children and adults with special needs, as well as at-risk children and teens, through the power of horses. However, these dear horses can’t work forever, and it’s time for some of them to retire.
The mother of one of our Happy Hooves riders that has autism has written about the amazing impact therapeutic riding has had on their lives: “Luke has grown immensely during his horse therapy. Once being very unsure of riding, he quickly formed an incredible and undeniable bond with his horse, Buddee, and his caring and compassionate Happy Hooves therapist, Nicole. This experience has opened up a whole new dimension within Luke and within all of us as a family. Luke rides Buddee with anticipation, joy and a sense of pride. His self-confidence and autonomy have blossomed. Being surrounded by the most genuine and caring people as well as the unconditional acceptance of horses, I feel like we found a piece of heaven on earth at Happy Hooves. I cannot imagine our life without the serenity that we gain from coming here, and I thank the good Lord above for this amazing blessing!”
After 17 years of running our Happy Hooves therapy programs, we need to purchase 4 new horses to give our older ones a much-needed break. They will need to be “bomb-proof” and able to work with riders of any experience level. Because of these qualifications, our goal price of each horse is around $12,000.
We at Happy Hooves are asking for $55,000 total for our new animals. After the GoFundMe percentage is taken out, this will give us just enough to cover all our needs. You would be contributing to the wellbeing of special needs children and adults, and because we are a 501(c)(3), it is all tax deductible.
