Scarfolk

I have been doing the Scarfolk blog for over 5 years.  I create all the artwork, texts and even the music.

I've never asked for any donations or patronage because it didn't feel right.  I also refused advertising revenue from the site because I felt it distracted from the work. I've always tried to monetise Scarfolk via commercial channels rather than asking the audience to contribute directly.

One way I did this was by creating  a range of merchandising which was released through a t-shirt company who, to date, has released several t-shirts, sweatshirts and mugs.

The launch was very successful and the owner of the company even declared: "Insane first day! This is perhaps the biggest uptake on any product/range [...] that we've ever seen!"

But then, slowly but surely, things started to go wrong and delays followed delays and when the time finally came to pay me, the t-shirt company filed for insolvency without warning.

In less than a year, the t-shirt company took tens of thousands of pounds for Scarfolk merchandise while I earned precisely £0.00p. In one fell swoop, I lost a large portion of my annual income. I haven't even seen many of the physical products I designed because I wasn't sent the samples I should have received.

I'm making a claim against the company but have been warned that the chances of recovering any debts from the company itself (who, it turns out, owes an extraordinary amount of money) are slim at best.

As much as it pains me to ask, if you have enjoyed the Scarfolk blog over the past half decade perhaps you would consider making a donation now. I've set the goal at £1 because the site requires I include an amount, but I don't have a specific goal in mind; I'll be grateful for any donation that will help me recoup some of my losses and/or pay for any upcoming legal costs.

Thank you,

Richard Littler
