Help send SBA SPLATFORCE to Worlds!

On February 18, 2017, a Saint Benedict Academy robotics team, Team Splatforce 603 (Amelia, Angelo, Emily and Tristan), won the Excellence Award at the NH VEXIQ State Championship which earned them a spot at the VEXIQ World Championship in Kentucky--where they will compete against the best robots in the World!

Most people assume you need a big school or a huge budget to be competitive at a robotics competition, but the students at Saint Benedict Academy proved you just need “Faith”, “Focus”, and “Fun”. This year, the 120-student school, fielded two teams in New Hampshire’s Inaugural VEX Ringmaster challenge.  The teams worked in pairs of two to build and program a robot to deliver rings to goals and posts.  Having never touched a VEX IQ robot they had to begin from scratch and learn everything from the ground up.

Being part of a catholic school, the students learn about having faith and believing in something bigger than just themselves.  Most people don’t realize how critical this skill is to build a great robotics team. Given that the team only met once per week for 2-3 hours they had to focus constantly on the tasks at hand and keep their robot evolving constantly. Their focus proved to be very beneficial as they were able to take home the RECF VEX IQ Excellence Award at all the tournaments in both the Elementary and Middle School Divisions they competed in.  The Excellence Award is given to the best overall team at the event--what an accomplishment!

What made Team Splatforce 603 truly “Excellent” was not their robot or all the work they did to get ready for competitions, it was without a doubt how much fun they had working together.  The team was made up two boys and two girls from grades 4-8, but when they practiced together you would think they had been friends for life!  The way they respect and support each other showed through at the State Championships, as both teams made the playoffs. The Elementary team took home the Excellence Award for best overall Elementary School team in NH, and earned a spot to compete with the best teams in the World.

At this World Championship, they will have a chance to meet children from over 100 countries.  What an experience this will be for them.  BUT this cannot happen without your help! The only way to help these children get to Louisville, Kentucky is for you to help with their registration, food, and travel expenses.   The team is looking to raise as much as $10,000 but need at least $6,000!

And lastly, in case the above was not enough to get you to give to our wonderful students, here is a list of why you should support Catholic school students--It's really simple:

1. 94% of Catholic school graduates attend college!
2. Graduates of Catholic education remain committed to community service throughout their lifetimes.
3. Graduates of Catholic schools remain actively engaged in the civic process throughout their lifetimes.
4. Graduates of Catholic education become community (and beyond) leaders.
5.This list goes on and on, but you should feel free to look at the National Catholic Education Association website, to learn more about the power of a Catholic education!

Thank you for supporting Saint Benedict Academy's Team Splatforce!  May God bless you for your generosity.

Blessings to all,
Amelia (4th grade), Angelo (6th grade), Emily (8th grade) and Tristan (5th grade)
