Please read more about Magics story here from Animal News Northwest and see images of his sad, isolated life.
See My Magic is a Tennessee Walking horse. One of the customs for a Tennessee Walker is to put these horses on very high blocks with long nails digging into their sensitive feet. In the show world when these horses are competing this extreme pain of walking causes the horse to high step in an attempt to avoid this horrific agony. Although Magic had not been outside in years he continued to have these shoes put on him every 3 - 4 months. Magic is not only a herd animal living in solitary confinement and not allowed outside - he is being tortured by this very controversial practice - for no reason!
It was clear from his cries and frequent inspections of his filthy stall, that Magic suffered greatly. Pierce County Animal Control refused to step in and do anything more than 'suggest' to the owners that they exercise Magic. On April 3rd Magic was removed from this barn and taken to an unknown location. We are working to gather more information on his whereabouts.
Please help us to get Magic away from these owners. We must be the voice for the voiceless, we must hear the cries of the vulnerable. Please don't let Magic's cries be in vain.
We are raising funds to free Magic with a two pronged legal approach. By helping Magic directly and by changing the laws in Pierce County (and WA state) that would outlaw this sort of abuse. Many have come forward offering to help Magic. Funds will be used for litigation and will also follow Magic to a sanctuary for his recovery. IF we cannot free Magic we will donate the funds raised to local horse rescues in WA state as well as use them to change the confinement laws in WA . We have high hopes that our fund raising, coupled with our petition and facebook page will finally be able to gain the attention needed to free Magic and change the laws for other horses that are not as well known.

Our attorney has reached out to the Pierce County AC supervisor on Sunday and asked for an update - as of yesterday (Wednesday) at 5 pm he had not received any information. The attorney filed an official request of records and hopes to have that in the next 5 days.
For me, I felt like I was hit in the stomach after hearing this news. I know that many of you will feel the same way and for this I am so, so sorry. We were wanting to wait until we had more information as to his whereabouts before posting this news. The unknown always seems to be worst. But, we did not want you to hear this news from somewhere else.
I am sorry that we do not have more information at this time. We are working many different angles to try to find out where Magic is and what our next steps are. For me personally, if I could just see that he is in a better place, with other horses and know that slowly he will be taken off the stacks and allowed to roam I would be happy. That is all I wanted - that is all any of us wanted I think.
But for now, we simply do not know.
I will leave you with the message that we are committed to locating Magic and confirming that he is indeed safe and is being taken care of. We are also committed to changing the laws that allowed Magic to be kept in such a way for such a long time. We have not ruled out a lawsuit and will do what needs to be done if the situation warrants it - but for now there is much that is unknown.
I will be in touch with updates as soon as we know them.
If anyone has direct knowledge and or history with Magic and / or the owners please contact me at:
We are gathering first hand statements.
Just a thought... somewhere in this thread it was mentioned there was a petition with over 5700 signatures. If each person who signed the petition would agree to donate $5, which would be $28,500, his "ransom" could be paid to the individual holding him. Any funds over and above that could go toward his rehab.
Hi - I am new to this gofundme approach so am doing the best I can with knowing how to respond to comments and questions when there are no emails given for comments. Please note - your comment will be deleted if you question the account. This is no place for doubts. The fact is that Animal Control HAS been contacted - many times over the past 4 YEARS (by me personally 3 times this month alone) and have done nothing other than visit the property and "suggest" that the horse is exercised. I requested all of the investigation records on Feb. 16th from Animal Control (per the FOIA) but have not received them as of today. Yes, we have contacted rescue groups, the Humane Society and the ASPCA and are working with many of them now to try to get Magic out. I am in contact with several news organizations as well to see if we can get some media coverage. That may well be the break that we need. Yes, perhaps buying the horse from the owner for his asking price is not the "right" thing to do - BUT until there is another solution that is what we are going with. As there is not currently another option for getting Magic out of his horrible situation - one that he has been in for years! So, while I understand that some don't agree with this method - UNLESS there is another solution we are moving forward with this and doubters comments will be removed. We are trying our best to save this horse - I am working - 5 hours on this daily, and unless there is another solution OR you have another / better idea (that you are willing to jump in and implement) then this is the path we are taking to save Magic. FAQ- 1) Yes, we are in contact with many of the most well known animal and equine rescues - both nationally and local. The issue is that it is not against the law to keep a horse in a stall for years. We are working different angles and trying to get some expert opinions to confirm that this is in fact causing Magic harm / pain - which SHOULD then fall under the definition of animal abuse. 2) There are photos in the Animals Northwest article. Two weeks ago the Taylor's put up a No Trespassing sign on their property, so as you can see from the photo that I took on Feb. 16th (the one used in this campaign) this is the closest that anyone can get to Magic - without breaking the law and being arrested. I know it is hard to not be able to see Magic, but this is the best we can do considering he is being hidden in a stall in the woods. 3) The Taylors live in a gated community - there is no way to stage a protest outside of their home. They also live in a cul de sac so even if we could it would not be that impactful. Most of the neighbors in this community know what is going on and many have filed complaints. You can also see mention of this in the Animals Nortwest Article. This is a gated equine community and people LOVE their horses. The Taylor's are well known for their abuse of Magic in this community. 4) Owners names are Ted and Mary Taylor. Their address is public information that can be gleaned by to the Pierce County Recorders site. Here is a link to the story that caught my attention 2 months ago and spurred my passion for helping this gentle horse. It will also explain much of the history about this case: http://animalsnorthwest.com/2016/01/06/see-my-magic-from-a-life-in-high-heels-to-a-life-behind-bars/ Many, many thanks to all who have donated. Your contributions are very much appreciated and slowly but surely we are getting there. Thanks so much.
So proud of you and all you are doing. Keep it up. The voiceless need determined advocates like you. You simply cannot try hard enough to succeed in freeing Magic. This is a very worthy cause. And yes, I have donated to free him and read every update eagerly, awaiting the good news that I know will come.
According to this article Pasado's has been notified and cannot do anything either :-( The horse was brought for $6,000 but the owner wants $20,000 for him. Horrible. http://animalsnorthwest.com/2016/01/06/see-my-magic-from-a-life-in-high-heels-to-a-life-behind-bars/
Keep reaching out to horse sanctuaries throughout -- I'm convinced you'll find one -- keep receiving donations -- continue to convince owner to lower the price & set this horse free -- keep at it -- if you need to rest, do so in small intervals -- whatever you do, do not give up until Magic is safe!
Nicki has a petition with over 5,700 signatures. she is trying to get the news involved but no one is willing yet. I have sent out links and pictures on twitter 204 times trying to get this story and gofundme page out. Unfortunately the only way we have of saving him is to buy him. We have a home for him and someone to take care of him while he rehabs after getting the blocks off his feet. We just need people to spread this page around so we can raise the money to buy him. Animal control and the sheriff say they are not doing anything illegal but it is horrible and cruel but there is nothing they can do to help us. Animal control has been out many times and try to convince them to stop this but the Taylor's will not. Please join his facebook page and thank you all so much for all your wonderful donations.
This news should be of interested to most who have been fighting on Magic's behalf. Maybe many of you can write to this candidate who'ls running in the race for presidency. *** Senator Rubio co-sponsored the following bill: *** Horse Soring: Prevent All Soring Tactics: “To crack down on the cruel practice of “soring,” in which trainers deliberately inflict pain on the hooves and legs of Tennessee walking horses and certain other breeds to exaggerate their high-stepping gait and gain an unfair competitive advantage at horse shows. H.R. 1518 would amend the Horse Protection Act to end the failed industry self-policing system, strengthen penalties, ban the use of devices associated with soring and make the actual soring for the purpose of showing or selling a horse illegal.” [HSLF Humane Scorecard 2014] or look into.. S. 1406 would amend the Horse Protection Act to end the failed industry self-policing system, strengthen penalties, ban the use of devices associated with soring. And one other candidate.. Governor John Kasich, The Humane Society Legislative Fund (HSLF) scores members of the Senate and the House of Representatives. SPONSORS: Sens. Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H.; Mark Warner, D-Va. STATUS: Amended version approved by Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation in April 2014; 60 cosponsors. These are my suggestions who to reach out to as well. It never hurts to try, they can say they'll try helping or they can't, one way or another it's worth a shot.
Animal control and the sheriff says what they are doing is not illegal. Buying Magic is our only hope, he has not been out of the stall for over 2 years. Giving these monsters $20,000.00 is the only way to help Magic and that is what we are trying to do, it is all about Magic at this point. We appreciate all the donations so much, thank you
I moved into that neighborhood when I was 7, lived right around the corner from this house. Ive seen Magic many times when I was younger, the guy was always out riding him or on a lead in the yard, I was always so amazed at the beauty of him. I remember the guy had a heartattack or maybe it was a stroke so he wasnt able to work with him anymore. Sad that things changed :(
I just want to thank you for what you are doing. These people telling you not to give the owners money obviously don't care about Magic. The most important thing is to free that horse and provide it with some love. Then the people in Washington need to get some laws protecting animals so that this doesn't happen again. WTF is wrong with them?
Have you contacted any other horse rescues/animal non profits. If anything they'd be able to get You more resources and publicity, maybe even donate. Gofundme can be awesome but what about other types of fundraisers? I'm a college student so money isn't really something I Can give but I'd love to volunteer and help out!
