Good day everyone

I just wanted to take this time and thank each and everyone of you who has supported this endeavor with your past gifts. We regret we have not had enough donations to make our very aggressive goal of $200,000. Without enough inflow of cash, we have not been able to honor the more expensive incentives. I hope you all understand that and please be patient with us. If we can make enough , we will honor your t-shirt and other incentives. We WILL be able to create the bumper stickers and will get those out in the new year. Please know that your gift made a huge difference and is helping us save these buildings.
If you can give again before the end of the new year, we would greatly appreciate it.
If you can share this endeavor, and get more friends involved, it will get us closer to success.

Thank you again and Happy New Year!

Check out this great article by the Island Packet that reports on two issues of grave concern:
1) The belief by some who insist on communicating negativity about this program without the facts to back up their fears.
2) The lack of response to this GoFundMe Campaign. All you have given and we sincerely appreciate your support. Please share your support of this program with others and help us spread the word!!! Thank you for all you have done for the program!

Joseph McGill, founder of the slave Dwelling Project, graced us with his presence at the Frances Jones house this past weekend. Miss Frances's Great Grandmother by the name of Mikel first came to this place as a freed slave in 1865. Their original house was similar to the small dwelling they lived in while in slavery. Fortunately for them, this place was there's and no one else's. Thankfully, it was passed own to their daughter, then to Miss Frances, then to the current owners. Now, we can all benefit from their story through the restoration of their home. Thank you for your support and more news to follow!
We believe this place matters

I grew up going to visit my aunt who had a house in Bluffton. We would come over to Hilton Head, before there was anything there, and I would see Defuskie, and hear the stories. I have been back to the area many times, and so hope that at least part of Defuskie can be kept in it's original state, and help the people whose ancestors lived there. I am so pleased to see this organization helping to perserve the Gullah culture through the homes, and helping the individual people in the process.
