Saving Sasha
Sasha is 6 years old. She has been in and out of the hospital her entire life. Sasha was born with Spina Bifida (a spinal defect that exposes the spinal chord and makes it bulge under the skin). After undergoing multiple surgeries, she still has no control over her bowel and bladder. At this time, Sasha is lucky that she is still able to walk. However, if she doesn't receive immediate help - the consequence of her condition may be far worse than paralysis.
Upon learning that Sasha's condition is potentially life-long, her father left, leaving behind a newly single mother and a chronically ill child.
Since birth, her diagnosis worsened and multiplied into a multitude of health defects.
Sasha currently suffers from:
-Bilateral Megaureter
-Bilateral vesico-renal (vesicoureteral) reflux
-Neurogenic Bladder and Bowel
-Bilateral Ureterohydronephrosis
-Chronic Pyelonephritis
-Chronic Kidney Failure
-Pelvic Disorder - urinary and fecal incontinence
Sasha is hoping to be transferred to The Schneider Childrens Medical Center in Israel as a bid for her survival. Doctors in her homeland, Ukraine, are out of treatment options and she needs to leave ASAP. Her single mom is unable to support the move and the associated expenses on her own.
My team and I are stepping in to help Sasha. We are working with charitable organizations in Israel to help assist Sasha and her mom with their transition - in the interim, with your help, our fundraising efforts will aid the medical costs associated with the incredibly wide range of Sasha's treatments.
CheckmateCancer.org has been raising money for underprivileged children with cancer and other life threatening diseases since 2013. The Founder, Elona Karafin, collects the funds from the campaigns she manages and works closely with the ultimate beneficiaries to make sure the funding goes to the appropriate place. Elona Karafin is a friend of Sasha and her mom, Anna. Upon completion of the project - the money will be transferred to Anna Shevchuk and will be used at her proper discretion. For any further information please feel free to email us at [email redacted].
As always, we keep our projects very transparent. If anyone would like to see Sasha's medical records and bills we are happy to provide that information. We are also looking for organizations that are willing and able to provide assistance to Sasha and her condition (both in Israel in the United States).
If this was your child, your sibling, or loved one - how would you help?
