Saving Tonto - Dog Attack Surgery

Last night as Tonto, my 7 year old shih tzu, and I were going for our walk on his leash, we were quickly approached by a big dog . This dog was not on a leash. As soon as he towered over my little shih tzu, something didn't feel right. I immediately felt uneasy, and afraid to move Tonto and continue walking, in fear this dog would attack, I froze. I stayed still, and before I knew it, the German Shephard crossed with Staffy, lunged at Tonto and had him in his mouth, flinging him side to side, and up in the air. All I could do was try and pull Tonto to safety, badly cutting my fingers on the leash in the process, afraid to fight more as the dog was vicious and I was terrified for my own life. I kept yelling for help and screaming that he was killing my dog.
The dogs owner jumped on her dog, trying to free Tonto but it didn't work. Tonto was finally able to get free, but before I could scoop him up, being to powerful for it's owner, the other dog leaped on Tonto and had him again, ripping into him a second time. I was screaming for his life. Once the owner was finally able to free Tonto, my husband, myself and our 2 children drove him to after hours emergency wrapped in a towel. He was in critical condition and remains in critical condition with several puncture wounds to his body. His cavity wall has been separated from his body, he has fractured ribs and oxygen filling up in his body tissue, yet he is still fighting to survive.
Today we made the difficult decision to transport Tonto 10 min to a specialist surgery practice so he can be operated on by the best. We are still waiting for more information and have not seen Tonto since last night.
The cost of the surgery will cost approximately £7000.00 plus the other costs that were incurred by his emergency care last night and the day care he had, before his transfer to the specialists.
Along with your prayers, we are humbly asking for help to cover this cost.
The owner of the other dog is on benefits, so unfortunately there is only so much she can help with at this stage, though she is liable. Her dog has been reported to police and we pray this will never happen again. One should never fear just venturing out for a walk with their dog. Right now our main priority is saving Tonto's life.
Unfortunately our pet insurance expired in February, the same month my son was born, so 4 months ago. Buying a new plan was on my to do list, but hadn't yet gotten around to it, not ever imagining I would be in this devastating situation.
I have been Tonto's mother since he was 3 months old. To see him suffer such trauma and to witness such a violent act has been nothing short of a living nightmare.
