Saving the lives of six pigs.

In late May of 2017, I acquired a dozen American Guinea Hogs with the idea that I would raise them for friends and family.  My evolving relationship with my pigs and how I came to care for them deeply is recorded in my blog at yardpig.com.  In November I made the difficult decision to slaughter half of them knowing that the possibility of saving all twelve was slim.  Now, with half as many lives to save, I have reached out to a nearby farm animal sanctuary called Peace Ridge, in Brooks, Maine.
To accommodate my pigs, Peace Ridge would need to construct a small barn; their barn for pigs is already at its limit with 21 occupants.   The cost in materials is estimated to be $10,000 - $12,000.  (I would provide the labor.)  Since Peace Ridge is always getting calls for pigs in animal cruelty cases, the barn would be sized to house more than six pigs.
My original goal included funds to provide for my pig's long-term care.  But, given the challenge of raising such a sum, I have decided to scale back.  If I reach my new, more modest goal, I will reassess.
Reading my blog (yardpig.com) will, hopefully, answer any questions about how and why I came to ask for help.   It's also a good way keeping current on my efforts to save the lives of my last six very special pigs.   Over the next 10 months, I hope to raise enough money to both build a barn at Peace Ridge Sanctuary and provide for many years of professional care.
Thanks, in advance, for your thoughfullness and generosity.
