Grace transported to safety
Grace at the Kill Pen in Oklahoma -scared and distressed

Grace with her newborn foal

Approximately 2 weeks ago, Pregnant Mare Rescue receive a notification of a Pregnant Mare who was due to be sent to slaughter. She was located at a Kill Pen in Oklahoma. (Yes horse slaugher still goes on)

This mare, now called Grace, was so scared she was barely touchable. In order to save this mare from the atrocities of the horse slaughter business, Pregnant Mare Rescue paid her ransom of $700 and quickly had her and her unborn foal moved to safety.

Never Rely on Mother Nature
We originally thought we could get her to our horse rescue facility in California before she gave birth. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Grace delivered a healthy baby girl on the morning of May 22nd - the exact date she was due to be transported to us.

Grace and her Foal Need Your Help
Unfortunately, Grace's foal named Ella became sick with Gram Positive Septicemia which then turned into pneumonia. Through no fault of her own, this tiny foal is fighting for her life - and we can't let her down now.

We are asking for your help with paying for the cost of her medical care in Oklahoma.

We are also asking for help with the transport fees from Oklahoma to California - a total of $1000.

Once Grace and her foal arrive they will need food, medical care, farrier care, veterinary care and more.

If you could just spare a small amount to help us care for Grace and her newborn foal we would be extremely grateful.

So grateful, in fact, that for every $50 you donate we will send you a framed photograph of Grace and her Foal with a Special Thank You Note!

We are a 501(c)3 Non-Profit. Our EIN number is 26-0484620.

Our mission:  Pregnant Mare Rescue is a horse sanctuary dedicated to rescuing pregnant mares and orphan foals. We have three facilities: our sanctuary in Larkin Valley, CA, our Gilroy Sanctuary and a Training and Rehabilitation Center in Scotts Valley, CA.

As always, we are so grateful for any help whether it be financial, product donations or volunteer activities.

Great News Today Regarding Ella - she is cleared to travel.

Yes, it's true. Due to the overwhelming support, Ella is on her way to recovery. She will still need antibiotics but has been cleared to travel by the Docs at Oklahoma State.

I've attached an image of the invoice from OSU so far so you can all see where your donations have gone.

It's been a wild ride, and now we need to raise money to get her home, and finish paying her medical expenses. I hate to keep asking but please, if you can, donate a little. Thank you all so very, very, much.

It appears Grace is doing just fine but baby Ella is still not responding to the treatment as the vets hoped. As one last ditch attempt to get rid of this infection one and for all they are going to try a more powerful antibiotic not normally used on horses.
The antibiotic will take at least 2 days to show any improvement so we are all keeping our fingers crossed it will work.
If not. I'm not sure where we go from here, or if there is anything we can do at all. THIS IS A HEART BREAKING SITUATION FOR ALL OF US!
This treatment is, of course, adding to the bill, so I implore you to please donate to help Ella. And thank everyone who has already donated.

Quick update on Grace and Ella this morning. I talked with the docs and Ella (the foal) is doing much better although her immune system is compromised. She is now on oral antibiotics instead of IV.

Grace is having blood work done this morning - that's if they can get close enough to obtain the sample. She is feral and is leery of humans although will let the doc take her outside on a lead line only if she follows the foal.

The pair will stay at OSU https://cvhs.okstate.edu/osu-veterinary-medical-hospital/ until they are fit to travel to California.

We still don't have enough money to pay their bill but we are slowly getting there. Thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far.
