Help A Furry Friend: Save Spackle
Donation protected
A heartwarming story of a displaced pup headed for a new home, sprung out of love and hurricane relief service that needs your help for a happy ending!
During Arcadia University 2018 Alternative Spring Break, 21 student, alumni and staff volunteers spent their week off rebuilding homes in Houston Texas area impacted by Hurricane Harvey. On the last day of work, the team of volunteers working on an 87 year old woman's waterlogged walls, gained a new team member. He is a sweet, young, wiggly, smiling pitbull. Although skittish at first, Spackle (aptly named from the spackle covered hands giving him belly pats and head scratches) did not want to leave us, nor us him. Spackle stayed by our work station the whole day and enjoyed the hugs, pets and the pb&j sandwiches the volunteers packed for lunch.
Our new love for Spackle fed our determination (through many many phone calls and emails) that has so far saved him from roaming the streets of a Houston suburb and from being euthanized. Picked up by the Galveston County Animal Resource Center; a kill shelter. We found out that Spackel was hours short of being euthanized due to his breed and easily treated skin condition that made him ‘unlikely to be adopted’ in an shelter with more displaced dogs than cages. After many phones calls with time running out we found
Galveston Island Humane Society who agreed to pick up Spackle just in time.
From there Spackle has been moved to Campeche Cove Animal Hospital which has been so kind to help board and vet him, with the understanding we will arrange for his transport. But now we need help to support these expenses and get him home to PA! We have spent hours reaching out to already streached non profits and transport companies, and have found one that just might work, if we can raise the funds.
Without support for the boarding and veterinary services that have saved him from euthanization, along side neutering, vaccinations, chip and travel expenses we may not have the ability to save Spackle. So any small donation you can make for our furry friend can help to cover:
The transport through the pet transport company called PETS.LLC. costing around $200
His boarding provided by Campeche Cove Animal Hospital for $30 a day [approx 12 days]
Travel and support from Galveston Island Humane Society
Even though we saw many stray dogs down in Houston, Spackle was the only one that approached us. He is very sweet, calm dog that was just looking for some love. The next step to getting Spackle a new home is raising some funds!
