SAVE OFF THE RECORD'S PORTSMOUTH SERVICE

Off The Record's Portsmouth Service at 250 Fratton Road will be closing 23rd December. So new premises can be located to continue running this vital service for 11-25 years old in the City, we need to raise £40k

An army of loyal volunteers are raising money in the community because they are so passionate about this service, they don't want to see this it close.  Everyone who volunteers for Off The Record is determined that it will continue to support young people in this community like it has been doing since 1977. This service is vital. Without Off The Record, over 3500 young people per year will not have valuable support that Off The Record offers. Off The Record are so respected in the community that GP services and other NHS mental health services, as well as referals from local schools and colleges and self referals.

This service is vital. Year on year the number of children who walk through our doors is increasing following a decrease in the support available for young people in our area.

Off The Record needs your help, in any way you can to raise this money which will keep our doors open and enable us to continue this vital support for young people in the Portsmouth - for free.

Not only does our service support the young people in our area, but it also provides excellent volunteering opportunities for returners to work, the long term unemployed, sick and disabled and those who are looking for a new challenge.  Off The Record has over 100 volunteers working from its two services who are trained, supported and nurtured by Off The Record enabling each and every volunteer opportunities that would not be available if the service didn’t exist. Our volunteers stay with us and are loyal to the service and because of our reputation we are always inundated with people wanting to be a part of Off The Record. Nearly 40 years in the community speaks for itself and not only that we were rewarded by The Queen in 2011 who honoured us with her award for Voluntary services. This is an award of the highest standard which we are so proud to have earned.

More about us;

Off The Record is a registered charity and has been supporting young people from Havant, Portsmouth and the surrounding areas since 1977.  It is an independent organisation not to be confused with other agencies across the country that may have a similar name.  For more than 35 years Off the Record has supported young people through many of lifes troubles including but not limited to;

Relationships and family problems
Rape, sexual assault and abuse
Self harm
Confidence and self-esteem
Online grooming
Suicide
Bullying
Depression or loneliness
Anxiety, stress or anger
Home, school, work
Supporting children in care
Pregnancy and abortion
Keeping safe, abuse, bullying
Homelessness or financial worries
Supporting young carers
… or anything else

For parents or supporters with concerns about a young person – we can offer limited support for you too – though this will be at a different time with another volunteer

Local volunteers offer all the support to young people.   They all work within an ethical framework for volunteers using counselling skills as well as Youth Access guidelines of good practice and Hampshire County child protection policy.

Off The Record welcomes any young person in difficulty, whatever their circumstances, and each year receives approximately 7,000 contacts from young people.

All counselling takes place at one of our two bases. We never offer counselling at home and don't offer counselling to couples together.

Off The Record supports equal opportunities in all aspects of its service delivery and treatment of others - Off The Record believes that all people have the right to be treated fairly and without prejudice irrespective of their gender, race, colour, nationality, ethnic origin, religion, class, age, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, HIV status, ability, appearance or size.

Young people's views contribute to the design of the service which is tailored to meet their needs.

“Having had counselling myself and experiencing first-hand how it helped me get my life back on track, I really wanted to give my support to Off The Record by becoming patron.  I hope I can help spread the word and persuade other young people to get help and advice when they feel there is nowhere else to turn.”
