Save Mack and Peter

Tax deductible
This brother and sister duo were rejects from a breeder. They were born with severe cleft lips and palates. Their deformities rendered them as damaged goods. They were dropped off at a veterinarian when they were just days old and scheduled for euthanasia. That’s when the ESPCA was contacted to save them from certain death. The ESPCA was also able to convince the breeder to spay the momma dog so the breeding would stop.

The issues with their birth defect made bottle feeding impossible at first. Our medical staff spent countless hours caring for and feeding these babies. Days after arriving, Peter fell very ill. A blood test showed that he was septic, a dangerous infection in the blood. Thankfully our amazing staff, with the guidance of Dr. Rutz, was able to give him a life-saving blood transfusion using another shelter dog. We were all on pins and needles, waiting to see signs of improvement. Within a couple of days, Peter regained his strength and started growing stronger.

Eventually this duo was able to transition from tube feeding to bottle feeding and today, they are thriving! For now, these two have to be fed with great care to prevent food from getting into their palates. Mack and Peter have seen a specialist and their birth defects will require surgery. Each surgery will be $2000.

Their surgery is tentatively scheduled for the beginning of April.
