Beatriz's Brain Cancer Campaign
My mother is an amazingly strong and independent single mom. She lives by herself in Venezuela where medical procedures and medications are expensive and hard to get. A tomography costs 75,000 bolivares there which is $75, but the average income is about $14 a month. The radiotherapy costs around 500,000 bolivares ($500).
She had a biopsy done, and through it it was discovered that she has a metastasized secondary brain tumor. We are in the process of looking for the primary tumor, but each test is expensive and there are several sites in her body that need to be explored. Once the doctors find it, another set of tests and surgeries, radiotherapy and chemotherapy will come.
She needs to do this with urgency because the edema that has formed around the tumor in her brain is growing and pressing in essential parts of her brain. She can no longer write or read, and can barely talk.
Her tumor cannot be removed because of the delicate place where it is located, but we, my family and I want to give her the best quality of life she can have for whatever time she has left.
She wants to live. Please help me, help my mom be a survivor.
