On Monday night, November 7th my 11 month old puppy Bailey was hit by a car and is now in critital condition. Before I jump into the details of her injuries please give me the chance to explain our story.

Our Story
On February 6th 2016, I took home my first pet, an 8 week old Australian Shepherd puppy that we would end up naming Bailey. At the time I had no idea what I was getting myself into or that this bundle of fur would become so much more than my best friend. However, during that first week that is not quite how I felt, rather it was more like hell week. Potty training seemed nearly impossible, and at night she wouldn’t stop whining while I attempted to crate train her. Like any bad parent i’d give in and she’d end up sleeping on my chest.
To be completely honest I began to question my decision in getting a puppy and what I could have possibly been thinking... Looking back it was one of the best decisions I could have ever made. She means the world to me and I will do absolutely anything for her. I am lucky enough to work from home meaning she’s always been by my side, and travels nearly everywhere with me. Were travel partners, from trips up north to visit the family to vacations down in Florida she’s traveled more than most humans. We're even working on goggle training. (Still a work in progress)
The Accident
On Monday November 7th, Bailey was on a mini vacation visiting my family up in CT. Bailey being her crazy puppy self escaped and according to witnesses was hit by a car that didnt stop. Her rear end took the brunt of the blow and this is also where her injuries lie. Bailey was found attempting to use her operable front legs to cross the road and out of traffic. Thanks to the help of some good samaritans she was brought to a patch of grass and even given a blanket before my parents were able to recover her and rush her to a 24 hour medical center.

At the medical center they were told what they thought were the extent of her injuries, a broken leg, and possible fractures in her pelvis. Luckily no internal bleeding. This facility told us however that after initial examination they’d like to send her a more specialized facility to deal with said injuries. To keep things short, upon examination at this second facility Bailey was found to be far worse off than we expected. We were recommended to transfer her to Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University, Arugably the top Veterinary center in the country. This is what they've told us...

To keep things simple she has 3 fractures, two in her pelvis one in her femur on her right leg. Her stomach and skin was torn up by being dragged across the pavement but luckily no skin grafts were needed. Along with her fractures she also endured her pelvis bone separating from spine. A surgery to literally screw her pelvis back to her spine occurred on thursday and was a success. Her left leg took the majority of the damage and as a result was left swollen, broken and has no feeling.
(She is hooked up to about 7 different tubes/needles that work to keep her alive and alleviate her pain.
A nerve specialist was brought in and we discussed our options in regards to the likelihood of it healing to where she would have feeling again and if not the need to amputate the leg to avoid self-mutilation.

The Cost
So this is where things get a little intense. After all is said and done we were quoted $15,000-$20,000 for all surgeries and repairs to her body. This does not include the possible need for an amputation down the road or any of her rehabilitation, follow up appointments and surgeries that may be needed if the pins/plates in her legs ever get infected. We have been told that best case scenario, if she is ever to walk normally, with or without 4 legs that it will take least 6 months of rehabilitation.

So... Where does that leave me? Well, first off I refuse to give up, i've been told by many that it's too much money to put into a dog. Others say that her recovery will be too much work and again, too costly in the long run. The way I see it is that she's my baby, I've raised her since she was 8 weeks old and there is no way in hell I would be able to live with myself if I threw in the towel and gave up on her. She’s only a 11 months, not even a year old. She has her entire life in front of her and I am determined to make sure she gets there.
And this is where I ask for mercy and help, I have done well for myself, no doubt about it. But this came out of nowhere and has already run me dry on my backup funds just in paying the down payments for her surgeries. I am already in the works of setting up a loan and will be paying that back slowly, but it's still not enough. I have to be honest with myself and admit I am a proud individual and the idea of asking for money is something I struggle with, but I've reached a point where I have no other options or choice. I am asking, even if its $1, please donate if you can. If you don't have the extra money then please, please share this on your Facebook and among your friends. Even if you can't do that, please just pray for her recovery.

Rehabilitation and our Next Steps
So, if everything goes as planned, Bailey has a long road of recovery ahead and i'm going to assume i'll have alot of sleepless nights; something I am willing to endure for this pup. On here I will be updating you all as often as I can with what I pray will be some good news.
