Help Me Replace My Arthritic Hips

Donation protected
A plea to all of the family, friends, and colleagues of Kathryn Abele, from her daughter, and only child, Stacy Abele.

If I had to describe my mother in five words, I would choose strong, (just, fair, someone with a strong moral compass), abrasive, unique, and caring. Those words hardly do her entire personality justice, though. She's the one friend who you could call at 3am cause your car is broken down and she will come get you every time. Her generosity and love for people is infinitely deep.

I've always been her biggest supporter and I know how hard it is for her to ask for help, especially financially, when she really needs it. In order to get her hips replaced, she has a huge deductible to cover, totaling $6,800. I'm asking you for the help of everyone and anyone willing and who knows her struggle. My mom can hardly stand, walk, or lay down without the excruciating pain she feels in both of her hip bones/joints. While she's still capable of very limited and basic movement, there are many more things that she absolutely cannot do without a hip are replacement. For example, she can't bend over to pick anything up off the ground. When she tries, her hips will lock up and she will literally be stuck in a L position unable to stand. Without someone's help in. that situation, she could possibly buckle under her own weight and fall. This fraction of the disabilities she deals with due to her hips has led her to avoid bending over completely. When I get home, there will be things scattered across the floor because if she dropped anything, she can't pick it up without help. She will often involuntarily scream in pain if she moves wrong or takes a deep breath. Anyone who's ever been around her to hear it, knows how much pain she is dealing with everyday.

Since she's temporarily lost her license to practice law, she's been so depressed, she has nearly lost faith in the American Justice System. Knowing the good she's done for clients past and, that come September of 2016, she will regain her license to practice is the only thing that's keeping her going. She is probably the most blatantly honest person I've ever met and I am so grateful that I learned how to be from her. The truth, whether it's good or bad, is better than any lie. I'd rather be offended because of the truth, then find out about a lie and be offended because the truth was hidden and the actual statement.

The lifetime of discrimination this woman dealt with trying to prove herself as an intelligent and capable human being has given her emotional strength any person would only dream of achieving. She deserves to be able to walk her dog in the morning and wake up, at 58, without the dread of what her pain will stop her from doing. She needs your help.

Any donation of any amount, $1, $10, $100, will help to allow her to pay even part of the deductible on her insurance for the hip replacement surgery. I am asking her colleagues, all of whom she loves and respects very much; her family who have been there with her through thick and thin; and anyone else who may read this, to donate. Everyone deserves a second chance at a happy and healthy life.
