MY STORY
My first memory of Trinity was being the new student in Mrs. Rathje's 2nd grade classroom.   I can recall sitting at my desk and thinking about what was for lunch or what adventures recess would bring.  At some point, I'm sure I thought about what it would be like to be 60, 70, or 80 years old.  Never did I think about what it would be like to be 145 years old.  Who would?

That was 1988.  Fast forward 25 years later and my very own children have the same teacher I did way back then.  I suppose that is why for many, Trinity is like an extension of their family.  Last year Trinity Lutheran School turned 145 years old.  Since 1871, it has been a second home to each generation of students that pass through its doors.  This is why it is so difficult.  It is like saying goodbye to part of your family and the home you have known for so long.

WHY GOFUND ME?
At the last voter's assembly, the church voted to close the school after much anguish and consideration.  Last week, the Times Herald ran an article about the school's impending closure (the link can be found below).  It was shared on Facebook more than 2,300 times.  The message is clear that Trinity has had a great impact on the community in Port Huron.

HOW YOU CAN HELP
-Share this story on social media with a personal message
-Donate what you can to this GoFundMe page
-Keep Trinity and its teachers in your thoughts and prayers

This campaign is a last ditch effort to secure funding to keep the school in operation in full or in part for another year.  Even if the campaign goal is met there is no guarantee that the voter's assembly of the church will reverse their decision. In fact, the financial need of the school is much greater than the campaign goal.  In the event that the school is to remained closed the funds would then be designated for distribution to the faculty that would be displaced by its closure.  The teachers of Trinity have for years made great personal sacrifices including paycuts to help aid the school.  Any type of relief would be well deserved by them.

FINAL THOUGHTS
I prayerfully ask that you consider supporting Trinity Lutheran School and its teachers any way you can.  Thank you to all of Trinity's supporters through all 145 years.  Let God's will be done regardless of the outcome we desire.  To Him be the glory!

Josh
