Save the Snowland Art School

$13,445 of $19,000 goal

Raised by 106 people in 2 months
This campagin is to help save the Snowland Art School. The school was started by Kristel Ouwehand in the Tibetan province of Amdo. The goal of the school is to promote Tibetan art and culture.

At this time, the most urgent need of the school is to complete the purchase of the home in which serves as the school and dormitories. Without the home the school will not be able to function and students will be sent back to their families unable to complete their education.

$19,000 (Canadian Dollars) needs to be raised  to save the school.

As the students that are selected are mostly from low income nomadic families, Kristel does not charge any tuition for the 4 years of training. Only a token amount of 500 RMB is paid by the families for the entire 4 year period. Remarkably, the school has therefore been funded solely by the sales of Kristel and the students’ artworks as well as commissioned paintings and murals.

Every little bit counts to help support our fundraising.

Whatever you can afford, will go directly to the management and operation of the school for the purchase of the building, supporting our students to continue their art studies and helping protect and promote their cultural heritage.

Hello everyone, thank you so much for the recent flood of donations and messages of support.

We have TWO weeks left to raise the money to save the school.

It has been a stressful week with our deadline fast approaching and a health scare for Choejor that sent him down to Chengdu for tests. Choejor is Kristel (Tenzin)'s husband, he is also the business manager, Chinese translator, bureaucratic wizard and canvas maker extraordinaire so we are very happy to hear that his test results came back negative.

Please continue to share our story and our message as we are not ready to give up this fight yet!

Also our Lovely friend Miriam has put together a couple of great videos about our school so check them out on YouTube!
Thanks to our friend Miriam

Snowland Art School is currently hosting their annual Girl Power Camp. Local girls come to visit the school for a week when the male students head home for winter break. It is a week of crafts, fine art skills, cooking, guest speakers and endless amounts of laughter and fun. It gives local girls a rare opportunity to spend time with other young women learning new skills and talking about the struggles they face in a male dominated world. This camp is also an opportunity for the female students of Snowland to develop their leadership and teaching skills as they serve as mentors to the girls. Your donations are helping to keep this project alive. Without the building Girl Power Camps will not be possible and the young women of Amdo will lose out just as much as the full time students.
