THANK YOU to our supporters!!!

We are so extremely grateful to our supporters and their generous contributions.  In addition to the funds raised through GoFundMe, we have also received donations totaling $24,000! Thank you!

For 23 years, the Siloam Wellness has helped Philadelphia residents and their families suffering from or struggling with HIV/AIDS. But today, the Siloam Wellness itself is in desperate need of the community’s financial help. Although Siloam has become a model for HIV Wellness Centers by providing an integrated HIV recovery program that complements traditional medicine, donations and fundraising efforts have not kept pace with growing demand for the center’s services. Board members at the nonprofit now predict that the disparity between services used and donations received has reached a crisis. The goal of the “Save Siloam” campaign is to raise $500,000 within 30 days.

“There will be a terrible vacuum left in Philadelphia if our doors close,” exclaimed Sarina DiBianca, Siloam Executive Director. “A Philadelphia resident infected with HIV can go to a doctor and be put on medicine, but if they’re emotionally and spiritually broken, they will not get healthy without the services we provide.”

While there are dozens of physicians and treatment centers in the greater Philadelphia area—and hundreds statewide—that provide medications to people with HIV/AIDS, there are no centers like Siloam that provide a holistic approach to healing.  According to a recent consumer survey conducted by the Philadelphia Department of Public Health, over 63% of HIV-positive residents report at least one mental health issue, with depression occurring at a prevalence of 51.5% and anxiety at 43.3%. Additionally, over 60% of HIV-positive individuals face unemployment—compared to 6% for the entire city. Furthermore, 19.4% of respondents reported incarceration after their HIV diagnosis and 10.4% reported a substance abuse disorder.

The comprehensive wellness programs offered by Siloam, with a focus on mental health, include:

Individual Counseling
Support Groups
Bodywork Classes
Community-Building Retreats
Educational Seminars
Behavioral Health Programs
Social Activities

If the GoFundMe campaign succeeds, Philadelphia-area residents who’ve contracted HIV, as well as their families, will continue to receive the support they’ve come to rely on. The funds raised would serve as Siloam’s operating budget for the next 2 years.
