Sharlett Webster needs your help. Having already survived 20 years of physical, emotional, mental, and financial abuse during her marriage, Sharlett has continued to endure hardship after hardship in her life. Since 2006, Sharlett has been experiencing extreme medical issues that has left her family in severe poverty and unable to financially support her medical needs. Recently, Sharlett has been transferred to the KU hospital for extraneous and extreme amounts of testing to determine what is causing her lungs to fill with fluid (over 200cc's per day) over and over again. After about a month of endless tests, hospitalizations, etc., doctors are still unable to determine what is causing Sharlett's current life-threatening symptoms, and the cost is piling for her and her family to be able to continue to provide her with the best care possible. Sharlett does have insurance, but as we know in our current society, insurance only helps "so much." Sharlett was very against starting this gofundme due to the the nature of feeling like she is "asking for a handout," as Sharlett has worked extremely hard in her life to support herself and her children, but it is now to the point where we no longer have a choice but to ask for help. If you don't know Sharlett, it's important to know that after having survived an extremely abusive marriage, she completely rebuilt her life. Sharlett moved to a small town in Southwest KS to flee her abusive ex-husband with her two youngest children, Zach and Jacey. She began working as an informal "hospice" care taker for elderly folks in need of assistance, but who couldn't afford or did not qualify for official hospice workers. Sharlett fell in love with this work, and the town fell in love with her, too. It wasn't until experiencing her first pulmonary embolism in 2006 that her health did a nose-dive. Sharlett was unable to work, unable to enjoy any quality of life due to her severe health issues, and is now on disability. Sharlett was told several times that she would be lucky to live five more years, and that was almost 15 years ago. While Sharlett's health has been more "stable" in the last five years, she is now experiencing extremely painful and life threatening symptoms once again. In 2014, Sharlett took in Jay, a 7year old distant relative (who she had met one time in her life) because she could not bare the thought of him growing up in foster care. Now 12 years old, Sharlett is determined to get to see her last child grow up, just as she did with Zach and Jacey when she got sick 15 years ago. Please, find it in your heart to donate to Shareltt's cause and help her stick around for her children and her loving partner, Marc.
