LoCo Artisan Coffee House Serves Coffee with a Purpose

The heart of Loveland can be found humbly beating inside a locally owned coffee shop downtown. Here, everyone is welcomed with open arms, offered to stay awhile, talk, and enjoy a cup of coffee despite their ability to pay. We need your support, in order to keep providing the space and coffee for this unique intervention in our community. More than half of the coffee served comes from donations on the pay it forward board, when possible. However, much of the donations come from the owner himself. Your contributions will help to keep the homeless from the streets and offer another service in our community that does not exist as yet for building community from the ground up, using one another as the stepping stones toward a community where no one is left behind.

Things happen here that don’t happen anywhere else. The homeless folks drop in to say hello to the owner, Brian, who greets them by name and offers his hand in friendship. If you want see love in action, stop by, order a coffee and a second, for the Pay it Forward Board, and wait. You will see it soon, someone, who you many not suspect, will come in from the bitter cold and gratefully order that cup of coffee or bagel from that board. They will sit down by the fireplace and feel a moment of dignity, acceptance and peace. It is heartwarming to say the least.

Nearly half of the coffee going out of the shop, is given freely. This was not the original business model but soon became essential as many of the homeless folks gather near the County building across the street. Brian and his team of big hearted folks were determined to make this contribution to our community by creating a safe place to encourage inclusion and support from our community. Over time, things grew. Now a wall of personal biographies of those who have found themselves on the streets cover an entire wall of the shop as part of the #VISIBLE movement.

If you stay long enough at the LoCo, you will also find the soul of Loveland moving quietly. Eileen will be mentoring a young lady for her GED, a lonely man will find a friend over checkers, a barista will play cards with patrons, and local, retirees and business owners will offer to help with marketing or even build homes. Brian offers resources and ideas to someone who has just found himself without a home. Others are so moved that they look for ways to become involved. A basket of hand knit hats and scarves sit by the door, offered anonymously. Young and old musicians are nurtured here. They come for open mic night, play together and people sing and dance. There is local art covering every inch of space and numerous comedy night benefits, to raise funds for 137 shelter and the Ft. Collins rescue mission.

You may be asking yourself just how all of this is funded? By the generosity of the patrons, personal investors like Eileen and the owner, Brian. LoCo is in the process of filing for Non- Profit Status in order to continue to keep the doors open, but will need the support of the greater community to continue to provide this much needed place of encouragement and caring.
