Save My Mom from Deportation

Donation protected
--------------------------Update 7/12/17------------------------
Hi Friends,

Today my mom had her bond hearing and thankfully she was able to get her bail set. Unfortunately, it was set at a high amount of $7,500 which is difficult for my family and I to gather. We are looking into getting a bond for her, but with immigration you must put up property which we likely will be unable to do. Many of you have already contributed and you have my gratitude. I hate to ask again, but it is for my mother and so if you can still contribute anything, I will be forever grateful. You can also contribute by sharing! Thanks again y'all!

Much love,
Christian
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

My mother, Maria Gutierrez, is currently in a detention center under an immigration hold awaiting a deportation and removal hearing. As a Legal Permanent Resident, the United States has been her home for over 20 years. Unfortunately, my mother was incarcerated back in September. Although that case was closed and dealt with, she was subsequently taken into immigration custody. Her prolonged detention has been extremely painful for my family and I. Whether or not you’ve had experience with incarcerated family members, the pain of being indefinitely separated from your loved ones is something I hope you can empathize with.

In Mexico my mother was an elementary school teacher. She sacrificed her career and family to come to the US so that her kids could have a better opportunity. While my father worked, he only made enough for us to scrape by. As a result, my mother had to take odd jobs such as cleaning to make ends meet. Unafraid to get her hands dirty, my mother would fearlessly stick her hands in the trashcans to collect any bottles and cans she could find. Anytime we went to the store she would give me a bag full of coupons to sort through. A determined woman, she went on to get her Cosmetology license. She took great pride in her accomplishment and loved to work. While we struggled throughout the years, my mother never lost hope and constantly reminded us to focus on our education.

As US Citizens, my brother, sister and I had an opportunity that my parents never did. This lesson was not lost on us; we all went on to graduate High School. As the oldest, I was the first in my family to get into college;I was accepted to the University of California Berkeley where I have since graduated from. Without my mother’s sacrifices I am not sure I would have made it to where I am now. I would not be the man I am today. This situation has turned our lives upside down. We are in constant fear that we will be permanently separated from our mother. She is a good person, a strong woman and the glue that keeps our family together. She has struggled to provide for me and my siblings, and to give us a better life. We need her and she needs her family.

The money raised will go to pay her legal expenses ($6,000 for attorney fees) and help cover the travel expenses to San Diego (where she is being held,) as well as to support my family without my mother's income.

Since I live in the Bay Area, I've enabled my sister Crystal Gutierrez to withdraw the funds and make the payments as she is living with my family back home in Los Angeles.
